for want of a tripod
I was out last night learning to do night pics. I had the perfect model but needed a tripod to get him proper...

2. If you're planning on shooting in low light carry a tripod
or at least a monopod

Good shots considering the circumstances

3. hey.. need suggestions
I am just learning and don't have a tipod yet; will any do? I just have a lightweight Pentax X90. Once I learn how to use this my partner will let me try out his Canon 7D. yay!

Last night in Louisiana was warm and balmy and teeming with critters... dragonflies, frogs, cats, raccoons, birds... and my first time trying night shots and I quickly learned the necessity of a tripod.

4. I lived in Louisiana for three years, it was never warm and balmy....

except in the winter. This time of the year (May to October) it was hot and sticky.

Just look for the sturdiest and most lightweight you can find that you can afford.

Test it before you buy. The most crucial (to me) is how it flexes horizontally after everything is tightened.

On edit: manual settings are best in low light also.

Don't rely on the camera's auto settings.

If you've shot with film you know how that works.
