Need some positive thoughts
sent out this way from my photo group friends.

As many of you know my son is getting married. My Tropical Still Life photo from the Your Best Shot of 2009 was taken from flowers from his engagement party last year and I posted a couple of pictures from the party.

After 18 months of planning the wedding is this coming Saturday evening. Unfortunately my son picked up some bizarre infection up in Northern Ca during his batchelor party weekend. His friends and brother rented a houseboat for the weekend on Lake Shasta and a good time was had by all. Coming back on Monday my son noticed an infected spot on his cheek. He went to the doctor immediately upon returning home and was given anti-biotics. The next morning his eye was swollen shut and the right side of his face was red and puffy. It seemed to improve a bit and he was able to open his eye but yesterday morning he had a rash and his face was still badly swollen. He want back to the doctor who put him on different anti-biotics and scheduled an appointment with a head/neck specialist to see about draining the infection.

The specialist couldn't find a pocket in the swelling but did call the Center for Disease Control to find out what kind of bug he might have contracted up in a warm lake in Nor Cal.They did a culture but the results won't be back for a while so they are kind of flying blind on how to treat this. The CDC recommended 2 very expensive heavy duty antibiotics, apparently pretty rare since the hospital pharmacy only had six of them in stock, but will get rest for him by tomorrow.

So this morning I talked to him and he says he looks the same but the doctor said it might take 48 hours and will give him a call tomorrow. He's really upset and demoralized and I'm just plain worried. Hr's trying to stay busy with last minute wedding things but I can tell this is giving him a lot of concern.

I try to focus on the fact that we are lucky to live in the 21st Century and have access to treatment that didn't exist a hundred years ago. But geez, this is his wedding day and he looks like he just climbed out of a boxing ring.

So send us some positive vibes. We need them.

Thanks all.

Mz Pip

1. oh no!
I'm so sorry. That must be very upsetting for all of you. Weddings are stressful enough, without something like this. I hope he's feeling better soon. Hang in there.
Hugs to all of you. :grouphug:

2. ((((((..........))))))
and they are all super positive. Such a rotten thing to happen... I hope everyone can keep the situation in perspective: your son's health and well being is #1 and I will send as many vibes as possible for his treatment to be effective. I am sure your son is marrying an awesome loving person and as long as he will be okay, everyone will smile and love him all the more with his swollen face.

3. Aaaaack--
Why a challenge that we don't appear to need? I can't answer that, but I know I am sending my best wishes and thoughts to the bride and groom.....and their parents!

Hopefully he is in great medical hands........that is the important thing.......so glad they did a culture.............Could be one of those family "stories" for the future.

Please keep us updated.

Ironically, I am beginning to plan yet another wedding. :)

Your son and his fiance are in my thoughts and prayers.

5. Our thoughts are with you all, Mz Pip!
Aside from the swelling, etc., how does he feel? Hopefully, as others have noted, he will feel good for the wedding and the photos will just be a reminder of a "hey, look what happened to yer dad the week before our wedding" thing in later years.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. And best wishes to the bride and groom for a long and happy realtionship together!

7. Update, sort of...
He came by tonight and looked worse. The red lump seems to have evolved into large festering sores. My sister-in-law who is a nurse seems to think it's a staff infection but the medicine that was prescribed - Cipro and some other thing I've never heard of should knock it out. How long that will take...

I want him to realize that he is going to be surrounded by people who love him and wish him well.

He seems to be feeling okay otherwise. His teeth hurt and his face hurts but he has an appetite and isn't running a fever so that is a good thing.

Thanks for your good wishes.

9. What an upsetting, scary and bizarre happening!
For some things, and this is one of them, words are so inadequate.
I wish all of you strength, perseverance, and the ability to find all the good you can in a tricky situation.
The happily ever after part is the important one.

I remember the photos from the engagement.
Your son looked strong and handsome.
This will pass into a family memory...

10. She's marrying HIM, not his infection!
Y'all will laugh about this as an unusual Bachelor Party gift, in years to come!

Best of luck (Break a Leg!!!)

I can't imagine what he could have picked up. Bless his heart, I just hope he gets better without any more difficulties. That's really the main thing.
