Franklin Falls (ANOTHER DIAL-UP WARNING)

It seems I've been in "water falling over things" mode for the last week or so. Actually, I've been wanting to experiment with slow shutter speed photography on waterfalls, and the bright sunlight at Bridal Veil on Friday made that pretty much impossible. So, this past Sunday, with its wet, dark overcast, was just about ideal. My subject was the nearest location to home, Franklin Falls near Snoqualmie Pass. The falls, located between the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-90, are divided, like Gaul, our system of government, or Karl Rove's anatomy (head, thorax, and abdomen ;-) ) into three parts.

Here are the upper falls, which cascade into a river that makes a weird u-turn through a narrow gorge.





The middle falls are only visible from a cliff along a narrow footpath through the woods, with trees blocking most of the view.





Finally, the lower falls, which are the only ones reachable on foot. (At this point, the skies opened up, and I had to find the nearest tree cover under which to set up my tripod for the long exposures.)

I think my favorite is the next to last.
