Question about photo processing
I read the rules and the rules say that you can do anything to a photo that you could do in a darkroom. Could someone define that more specifically for me? I've combined two photos, laid in a different sky, and lots of other things in the darkroom. Just how far can we go with Photoshop?

Thanks for the help.

1. The rules will probably cut you off at composites.
These are OK: lighten, darken, sharpen, soften, saturate, desaturate, b&w conversions. Maybe a little cloning.

Any individual contest can have its own set of extra rules.

2. That's how I approach it
I can Photoshop the hell out of a picture - combine, layer, filters, blending modes, gradients etc. But that is not what this group is about. This is a Photography group, so whatever is done needs to be done in the spirit of that medium. At least that is what I think about when I submit a photo for the contests.

3. I can probably do more in the
dark room than I can with Photoshop but I was curious as to what the specific rules were. :-)

Thanks to both of you for the info.

4. we had a discussion once that got somewhat contentious
so, the rules are a bit undefined.

For any one contest, I suggest that you PM the person in charge for the month. I am guessing that some will interpret one way, and some the other. For sure, some processing is allowed. On the other hand, extreme processing isn't. Personally, I am fine with slightly different rules for different months. Others feel differently. Still, there are consequences for winning the photo contest the previous month, and those consequences include making decisions in individual cases.

;)

5. Okay, thanks.
I was just curious because of the way it was stated about dark room techniques. There's many things that can be done in the dark room, like sabbatier prints.
