I have learned how to scan!

I know I'm late to this party, as usual, but I'm having so much fun! No loose pic in my house is safe...

My stair entry was scanned today, and the pic of me and my husband was next!

Voila!

It's a terrific way to save and restore old pictures, put them on CDs, make slide shows out of them. Very fun.


Don't stop at pictures! I've scanned plastic bags, sugar, feathers, fabric, moss, bugs...

I even scanned my cat when she was sitting on the open scanner. Cute little kitty butt!

I was around 12, and my camera was a simple point and shoot, probably a Brownie or some such. I have long wanted to return to this spot to re-take the pic, but haven't been able to yet. Some day I will...

I'm getting ready to do a ton of scanning as I have a daughter getting married and she wants a slide show for the rehearsal dinner. So I get to go through all the baby pictures, kid pictures, etc. Hopefully the groom's mother will do her own scanning, but I noticed my daughter sent me our address for snail mail pictures.

I love making slide shows..........scanning, not so much.

My hint on slide shows--make them about ten minutes long--any more gets boring. Have the pictures move very fast--maybe every three seconds or so, and put fast, upbeat music on. You can cover a lot of pictures that way without boring people. I kind of didn't understand all this until I saw a slide show that was professionally made.

Thanks for the slide show tips, but I actually doubt I'll be doing any...time will tell, though!

of the happy couple's evolution from diapers to engagement ring. I did one of those. Lots of scanning, cropping and retouching. Added a sound track. Ours was about 20 minutes long and we had it on a loop during the engagement party. Alternated his and hers shots and tried to make it as chronological as possible - his 1st grade pic then her 1st grade pic, he on his big wheels, she on her big wheels. I actually had pics of each of them kayaking. It was cute.

Have fun with it. It will be a big hit and many will ask for copies!

Should I alternate or not, I was asking myself? I think alternating is a good idea, although I might do something like five and five rather than matching exactly. This is going to be quite a project and I am glad I have some time now. But that's one reason I am not rushing around trying to get a stairway picture.

In all honesty, the selection process for the pictures won't be that hard. I didn't go nuts with photography when they were growing up. I'll have to use whatever I have. I did a better job than my inlaws though. My husband has about two pictures of himself as a kid, and one of them is an oil painting.

If we loop it and have it in the background, I can make it longer than ten minutes. I need to ask my daughter about the program! You all might be spared my posting of photos for a couple of weeks. :silly:

fades. I think I used a random fade so the change from one pic to the next varied quite a bit - sometimes just a wipe, sometimes a checkerboard. Neat stuff.

I only scan for my work. Sometimes photos.
But I plan to take a year (LOL) to go through old photos of my Dad's and my own.
That will involve learning to scan slides.
