A recent (Sunrise thread) discussion reminded my of my 'wanderjahr' (more than a year) that began with a trip thru Norway, via UK and Amsterdam (no surprise - see pics). So I dug some up and scanned them. Not great photography, but still I think they capture a little of the experience. Another world, a world where magic could live, a world where raw reality overwhelms illusion.
The first bunch were taken on the North Cape, at the far north of Norway.
This is a landscape. Lens flare adds color, but otherwise tundra isn't much of a subject for panoramas.
On the other hand, if you are heading north, you've pretty much reached the end. The building at the top (look closely) provides a sense of scale.
When the fog rolls in above the sea, one really gets a sense of being on the edge of the world.
Another view near midnight with the sun in the north (northwest?)
Clouds cleared, daylight (midnight), but underexposed to show the glow. Should this be called a sunrise or a sunset?
A bit south and east, near Kirkenes on the Russian border. Me and all my stuff (simpler times). An old picture, but I'm content to believe it still looks enough like me that you could pick me out of a crowd.
My neighbor at the otherwise empty campground.
Less portable than my tent, but more weatherproof -- a hut built by Lapp (Sami) reindeer herders for use as the animals followed their migratory perambulations.
