5. That is awesome
Very clever idea. Could be a contender!

I've been doing some shooting but most of my recent shots are just too boring. I've got a couple in the archives that might work, though.

8. Thanks! I've taken some outdoor shots but mine've been boring too.
We had a very brief period of sunlight today and I raced to beat the clouds (and time). Alas..

Looking forward to seeing your entry!

37. Sometimes cropping feels like cheating
But a lot of the time it allows you to capture what you intended to capture with the camera. :)

This crop being a fantastic example I think. Colors and composition just click.

One note: A lot of photo forums have rules that the poster has to allow other users to do it. As it can be considered somewhat rude to mess with someone elses work. All depending on the recipients feelings on the matter of course. :)

20. I like it BUT
Edited on Tue Feb-08-11 09:09 PM by Celebration
I think I like the dog and leash being shown. Here is why--I think the red in the leash kind of makes the photo, because it stands out..........yet the shadow of it is the same color as the dog, and that is BLUE! Everyone knows the shadows are the same color, but we hardly think of them being blue like that. I just love the red in the photo..............

But I think I might crop it more than your first version--it needs a little straightening, and you can lose quite a bit on the left and bottom. Or at least see what that looks like. Maybe I will try it and see what it looks like. Maybe something like this?

That was fun. Thanks for the advice! Sadly, the red leash was severed the next day and has been replaced with black.

24. What I liked in my crop
Edited on Tue Feb-08-11 10:27 PM by Mira
is the curve, the real dog and the shadow dog, and the looooong red leash making another line.
I like the shape of the shadow only if the dog is also in the picture, because it is foreshortened, and IMO only attractive and even funny with the originator, the dog, present.

Hope this makes sense. So I vote for my own crop.

on the wall. the texture of the wall comes through. I kind of like it but I'm not sure I'd use it.

Sort of like an abstract painting.

Like the contrast in the second too. It is like an abstract...which I like about it.

15. I was organizing some photos
and realized I had shot my shadows a couple of weeks ago. At the time I was despairing over the fact that the shadow was ruining my shot, but there was nothing I could do about it at this time of year. As it turns out the shadow is perfect. Ya just never know.

19. one of my first entries
and the first time I made it to the finals, was a shadow photo. It is one of the few that I have where I specifically went for the shadow. I would enter it again if I could. Not sure everyone got the symbolism the first time.

30. I'm having fun with this topic,
We actually had sun yesterday so I did some outdoor shots - lots and lots of them! I still have some indoor ideas that I'm going to explore, but here are a few from yesterday.

Sculpture

Stairs at the Art Center

My infamous blue rail - the shadow reminds me of a piano, but I think that's the railing's purpose.

Bike (I have many variations of this one)

And I think my favorite - well so far!

32. Nice ones!
I got the bike. That is a good winter photo! The piano? It is supposed to look like that? Where is it?

I like the building but I think I would like it better if there was a shadow on the building from the wire sculpture.

38. Thanks for your comments.
The piano? To me the shadows from the railing look like piano keys. Maybe I'm seeing something in this that's not there(?)

Oh if only I could get a shadow of that sculpture on the building I'd be so happy. But the sculture is too far away from the building. That was a difficult shot to get to begin with, because of such close proximity to other buidings.

We strolled along the Rhine for a short while yesterday.

Bridge railing...meh. Kinda boring.

Same in BW. I like this one better.

Shadow buns

I must confess to getting lost in the action and reflections on/along the river.

I really did.
I even smiled big ahead of time.

This prescience is with me some of the time and it's not unusual. Just funny.

Now -
your first photo is magnificent in the muted colors the soft shadows and the yearning it inspires in me to go and be there.

Thank you for that

45. Yep...
we are neighbors if you are in NC. We took the Blue Ridge Parkway down to Blowing Rock a couple of years ago. It was beautiful drive and we enjoyed staying in Blowing Rock for a few days. It's an interesting little town but the blowing rock itself wasn't really impressive.
