The $499 price is kinda steep for me, but I am sure if the tool is as it says, the Pros will pay the price. Student pricing available.

But.... it does look very impressive...and I did steal the metatag list they had for it for my Paint Shop Pro file browser. Very helpful. I can never figure out how to categorize my snapshots... thanks for the link.

iPhoto gets a bad rap, but I love it. Nikon Capture is nothing compared to the elegance and ease of use of iPhoto. The slideshows, and album categorization, not to mention ability to hold RAW files is really worth a look. That comes free with any mac. It's editing tools are simple to use, but very limited in abilities though. Apple makes better, more intuitive user interfaces than Adobe does. Adobe's software is really kitchen sink stuff. How much more can they pack in?

I'd like to see Apple make a image editor program fully integrated in with iPhoto, with much the same capabilities as Photoshop Elements is. Most of the pro/student Photoshop stuff is too esoteric for everyday use. For about $50-70, I'd buy an "APERTURE ELEMENTS" version. Bundle it in with iWork, and I'd be in mac heaven!

You should try Photoshop Elements. They make a version 4 for Windows right now, for about $90. It really is worth it, and comes with an album/slideshow feature which I hear is great. So far, it is the best imaging editor for less than 100 bucks that I've used.

One problem with PS is that I have to buy a plug-in called Neat Image in order to reduce grain and noise. It works, but not very well. If you reduce noise too much, your image looks jpeggy or computery, and less like a photo. It also leaves a few artifacts. Quite complicated to work with, since the Y, Cr, Cp axes are all separated, not to mention high, medium, low levels on the frame. Makes uniformity difficult. It would be nice to simplify this effort without a plugin.

But...a Powermac G5 dual with 7g of HD space at least to run this thing? What a powerhog!:wow:

It does look like a great tool, but now that I am retired, I just don't have the money for such tools.

I have my computer on my kitchen table, which means that powerbooks are for me. An Imac G5 could be done, but I can't close it up and eat dinner. No other corner of the house is available for a computer zone.

You can put it on a swing arm. You can then use a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
