Farewell to Max the Cat
RIP Max. ? - 4/4/11

Max came to us over 10 years ago; probably about 3 years old at the time. He showed up on our side deck on morning looking up expectantly. He wouldn't leave. Every morning he there, looking up waiting for something. He wouldn't leave. He wouldn't come in the house, though. He didn't like the dog. But he stayed outside for months. We took him to the local clinic and had him fixed. He spent 2 days behind the TV after that then went back out. Time passed. The dog got too old to chase him out so he moved in. He was a super cat and a super friend; always friendly and easy going, a good traveler, always curious. I don't recall his ever hissing at anyone or anything.

This weekend he could no longer be a cat and do the cat things that he enjoyed. It was time to say good bye.

I'm sad but I know he had a good life with us.

We outlive our pets. But we keep on.

10 years with Max was maybe worth this sadness.

4. Good for Max and good for you to have had each other. He's beautiful, and
I know his life got better when he made a commitment to you.
:)

Today my son called me, he was in the process of saving a cat that has shown up at his place and been hanging around on the deck but was too wild to keep. They could not, they have a dog and two cats already. He drove it two hours to a place where for 200 dollars it will have Vet care and a no-kill home.

I'm sending you a hug

7. Heart to you.
One of the great injustices of this world is that our companion creatures live such short lives.

I love his expression...

Safe passage to Max...

They rely on us to take care of them...

You did the right thing, even though it was hard.

10. It never gets easy
I thought that as I got older I could deal with the loss of a furry member of our family. Nope. It seems to get harder.

Max picked the right deck to wander on 10 years ago.

If I had time I'd tell you a story about 'Rainbow Bridge' and our last dog. Maybe later.

My heart goes out to you.

12. Thanks.
He was a wonderful beast. He will be missed. It's time like this that I hope there is a kitty heaven filled with slow mice and fields of catnip.
