A friend of mine just started exploring photography--what do
you think of this sample?

I'm kind of blown away by how good her stuff is within a few week of having the digital camera.

Now I want to start with photography too! (Just what I need another hobby--and I have a track record for taking hobbies WAY too far!)

Does anybody have any thoughts on waterproof digital cameras vs waterproof cases, also any input on video cameras vs cameras with one minute or so video capability? How hard is single pic capture etc etc?

Thanks folks,

*note* I tried reducing the size--but the preview still looks huge, we'll see how this goes.

1. You sure ask a lot of questions
:hi:

Great action shot.

I can't answer all your questions but you might want to check out this thread....

"How hard is single pic capture" Pretty easy. Just point the camera at something and push a button. Raid your penny jar, rob a bank, or sell your soul to the devil and get yourself a camera. Have fun and stop back and share your photos.

3. Thanks,
I'll start doing my camera homework now! :hi:

I mainly need it by spring, so that should give me some time to evaluate stuff.

2. As far as a camera goes
you need to really figure out what you want to do with it first and how much control you want over what it does. Here is a great place to see comparisons of cameras and find lots of info. http://www.steves-digicams.com/

5. Definitely a good site.

I used it extensively when I was deciding which camera to buy nearly two years ago. The camera I chose based primarily on this site was so good that my family now has triplets of it (mine, my daughter's, and my mother's).

(edited to add last sentence)

6. I can't answer your questions, but I can
suggest two things.

1) To learn about composing a good photo, check out this site: Photography Composition Articles.

2) If your photo still looks huge on your screen after you've reduced it, try refreshing your browser instead of just the DU preview. That's what screwed me up when I first started posting photos.

Good luck and have fun. And report back here with your photos someday! :hi:
