What do you think of swans floating on the Mississippi River?
I mean these kinds of swans, that are supposed to be in the "Gulf of Mexico" at the end of the model of the river on Mud Island..............

Here are a few more flood and flood gawking photos. These aren't the best photographically. I hope to go back sometime when it isn't noonday sun. Just thought I would give you a glimpse of this since we are all over national news.

1. It is sad
and even worse I think it is going to happen more often. No so much your photos but seems like no photos really capture the helplessness and depth of water when it floods. Your are doing as good a job as any I see in newspapers. I flew over the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers when they were flooding in 1993 then drove back east through St. Louis. All the flooding was something and really brought home how little mankind can do when mother nature insist on doing her thing. Probably a good bit of why I find the photos sad too since so many lost so much and will again. I hope you and yours stay dry.

3. Until now we really haven't had these floods
This is the worst La Nina I have ever lived through! Yes this made me in awe of nature. Most of downtown Memphis is far above the flood, thankfully, and the buildings that I showed flooded were not homes, but park buildings. The entire riverfront park is flooded, and part of Riverside Drive. The upscale Mud Island neighborhood is mostly going to be all right, as houses are two feet above the crest. Too close for comfort! The Montessori School on the island is flooded, as are some apartments. Unfortunately Nonconnah Creek is not able to properly empty into the river and there are homes affected because of that. We are high and dry. In fact, we may be the only zip code not on the danger list. We aren't that close to a river here.

2. So tragic. Water out of control is terrifying. I have been following the
situation quite a bit, and wondered who would be close to it. Should have thought that it cold be you.
Very fine depiction of this sad happening, I know it must hurt you to see it.

4. At least there was warning
The city and people affected have had plenty of time to prepare. We have some friends with a place on the river in Arkansas. They moved all their furniture upstairs and had the downstairs carpet taken up. I know I would get really sad if I saw people that were displaced and homes flooded, but thankfully, although that is definitely happening, there is no chance of loss of life or anything. But the bad part is that the river will not be coming down much for a couple of weeks. When I see photos in the paper of the homes affected, I get sad. Except for Mud Island and the riverfront park and road, all is okay in the main part of downtown, which is high on a bluff.

The Tennessee River is also very high. I'll try to get some photos of that as well.
