19. so far
i've gotten three rejections from galleries...looks like i might have to show at some hole in the wall resteraunts...that's assuming they have space for new artists...which seems to be the problem...too many artists and not enough space...

20. Make Your Space
We have a renegade group in Nashville called "Untitled" that has quarterly shows with dozens of locals that will sell anywhere from $45 tp $1k. They started out showing in run-down lofts and former strip clubs. Now they're at the mall.

21. that is a good idea
Edited on Tue Mar-27-07 07:19 AM by cleofus1
but there is no such thing as inexpensive space in anchorage...i think i'm starting to sound like that negative smurf dude...anchorage is a tough town to get shown in...i mean you can show...but mostly in places where no one will see you or getting ketchup or grease on your painting could happen (eateries)...i've written to three of the major galleries here in town (think realisitic paintings of moose...or ultra sexy western looking eskimo women dressed in skimpy hides...tastefully done)...and for the most part they have their in-store artists that they promote and market...and as i say...space is limited...i find myself walking sideways in some galleries...there is one coop type place that i will try...but they only take applications every few months...and competition is fierce...so i will keep plugging away...sending e-mails and walking in and talking with people...but so far...no dice...

22. Interesting
Just FYI, the last opening I attended was a two-man show in a small, private gym/health club (after hours). The gym got a small crowd of vistors who may not have entered otherwise, so I imagine some sort of deal was cut, allowing the artists to spend more of their money on wine & deli trays. The crux is having the contacts/publicity to get the word out.

23. I think you and I share a love of vibrant color.
I like how you successfully employ contrasting colors together, too.
