Animation Review: Hellsing

Hellsing

Story: Hellsing is a secret government organization dedicated to killing vampires. For untold reasons, this organization has a contract with a ridiculously powerful vampire named Alucard (Dracula backwards). Alucard transforms a woman, named Victoria, into a vampire, and she becomes Hellsing's newest recruit. Hellsing investigators, Alucard, and Victoria investigate a "freak chip" which turns people into vampires when implanted in the skull.

Animation: Inconsistent. Some scenes look nice, while others are substandard. There is a heavy use of the color red, hence my font color choice.

Humor: I don't recall any intentional humor.

Violence: Very violent. Most of the vampires wield firearms, which makes them especially dangerous. Additionally, most of the vampires, including Alucard, delight in violence, so the fights have a bit of a sadistic and depraved feel to them.

Hentai: A suggestive scene or two, but no nudity.

Overall: The story takes place over 13 episodes. Many of the episodes end on an exciting cliff hanger, which is fun. The story is pretty good, but some major plot lines are never concluded. One of the strengths of Hellsing is something "big" happens almost every episode. The story is constantly moving forwards.

Interesting side note; the vampires don't seem to be affected by sunlight.
