It was an investment purchase but one i hope that will add value to my home and cut down my heating bills this winter. After a lot of research i took the plunge, it should hopefully reduce my gas bill by up to 40%. The one i got is pretty much the one in that picture but i got a bigger insert, it comes with a 6 speed fan and a remote so i'll be able to basically control the temperature, it's supposed to heat up to 1200 sq ft.

1. I had one MUCH older in my CA home (1000 SF) and it did a great
job!

we had a major winter storm one year and had no power for about 10 days and even with out the fan the house stayed comfortable in freezing temps no problem

you'll be pleased I'm sure!

2. i am so happy to hear that!! I've been sweating this purchase
no pun intended, the total cost for the unit and the install is close to $4000 but it seems like a great unti and in the long run it will save me money and i hope it will add value to my home.

3. What is "natural vent"?
Is this different than a regular gas log fireplace?

4. dunno, this is a direct vent and yes it's different from the gas logs
i already have, this unit is totally sealed plus they redo the inside of the chimney, one pipe for exhaust and one for clean air. This unit also has the fan that will push the heat out of the fireplace and into the room.

5. Oh, ok.
I thought they might be un-vented logs which are not healthy to run for long periods of time. These sound really nice. Wish I had know about them when I added gas logs a few years back.

i wish i had done some research first, this unit puts out 30,000 btus compared to the 5,000 the current set does.
