how do I find a 130 inch curtain rod??

I have three 40 inch windows right next to each other with only an inch between the trims. There apparently used to be a curtain rod -- one of those simple white things, you know. The hooks are there, and two supports are in the middle.

But I can't find a rod long enough to fit. It's about 125 inches from hook to hook.

Any suggestions? I've looked everywhere for a solution. I also thought about replacing the hooks with something that could hold a long dowel, but I can't even find a dowel long enough.

I don't want to buy an expensive metal rod with finials. This is a simple room.

Sounds like an excuse to get a plate of swedish meatballs. Although I hear that one must stand in line an hour to get in line for the meatballs.

I suspect you're talking about the plain, cheap, thin, flat, sliding curtain rods that have been around forever. The kind that looks like this:



You need as many extensions as required to get the length you want. The extensions look like this:



They're essentially just straight sections of the curtain rod and telescope into the regular rods. They might require intermediate support hooks, too, one at each joint in the rods. Hooks like this are one way to get that support.

But that wouldn't be enough. I didn't know that you could add more than one extender. I'll have to find a place where they sell extenders separately. The support hooks are already in place on the wall.

Wait. How can extenders hook together? Aren't the ends compressed to fit into the end pieces?

Think of the basic rod. It is two pieces. The (let's say) left side fits into the right side. Imagine an extension that fits between each side. One end of the extension fits into the left side and one end fits into the right side. With this scheme, you can fit as many extensions to a rod as you wish.

By the way, I would strongly suggest that if you are close to the limit of an extension, buy an extra one rather than trying to stretch one too far. It is better to have them extended way less than their overall length so as to allow them some strength.

or even electrical shop and get a piece of pipe or conduit cut to fit. You can lightly sand it, prime it, and paint it, although the paint might need to be retouched now and then. You can ask them to cap the ends.

It's not elegant, but it will work.
