Weekly on-line radio show I think you'd like: "Spiritual Awakening" with James Bean
A while ago I posted about James Bean, who was broadcast on Wisdom Radio. Well, Wisdom Radio went out of business, but now James Bean is back on the air.

STREAM LIVE at www.LIME.com (Sundays at 9AM or 9PM ET) or at www.HealthyLife.net (Sundays at 3PM ET or Fridays at 1PM ET).

LISTEN TO ARCHIVED SHOWS HERE: http://www.spiritualawakeningradio.com/archive.html

A sample show description from the archives page:
Program 597 - The Way of the Heart Part One

During this edition of Spiritual Awakening radio: a new recording by Tamir, titled, The Way of the Heart, featuring the poetry and stories of the great Sufi Poet-mystic: Rumi.
Spiritual Awakening, heard on various community and public radio stations, also broadcast on Radio For Peace International, explores the world of spirituality, comparative religion, books, websites, and music. LISTEN TO THIS SHOW: http://www.archive.org/stream/SpiritualAwakeningProgram597RumiTheWayoftheHeartPartOne

Recently I listened to a show in which he read peace prayers from various world scriptures. He also reads poetry, plays music, and discusses spirituality of all types.

I find the show very soothing and uplifting.

Please feel free to crosspost this in other groups if you would like.

Enjoy,

wildflower

1. I enjoy listening to his show,

Thanks Wildflower!

I heard one of his shows where he was discussing the Gospel of Thomas. It was fascinating to me. He oftens picks unusual and exotic texts to read and discuss which I find very intellectually exciting.

I think a few years ago I wouldn't have enjoyed his show so much, but now I am more willing to approach spiritual questions with an open mind. I enjoy gleaning the wisdom from the ancient texts, and listening to their beauty. I always love the sound of Rumi's poetry.

Bean really seems to approach things from the standpoint of a scholar. Do you know what his background is?

5. Everyone, just a reminder the show is on tomorrow, and...

To ayeshahaqqiqa, pberq, and I Have a Dream: you're welcome, and I hope you enjoy listening to his show much as I do. (Ayesha, I think you'll especially like it; it seems to me he features Sufi poets quite often.)

To Ranec: I'm not sure or can't recall what James Bean's background is. I haven't explored his Web site thoroughly yet but maybe there is info there.

I see he has a couple of Yahoo groups: http://www.spiritualawakeningradio.com/yahoo.html

This Yahoo group looks very interesting: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SpiritualAwakening/messages

It's interesting you find him stimulating in an intellectual sense, because I like his show for its poetic, spiritual, and musical qualities. But he certainly is a scholar, no doubt. And I like his focus on mysticism; it speaks to me spiritually.

Anyway, I hope you all enjoy! See my OP or http://www.spiritualawakeningradio.com/sched.html to find out when the show is on tomorrow. (But if you miss it, you can always listen to some of his archives.)

ON EDIT: I wanted to add that if you have Sirius, you can hear him on LIME on Channel 114 (as well as on-line).
There are apparently a few radio stations that carry the show as well; I was just looking at the schedule page again.

And, to Ranec again: I was looking at his list of articles (http://www.spiritualawakeningradio.com/articles.html ) and noticed that in the article http://www.spiritualawakeningradio.com/findpath1.html">Finding Your Spiritual Path, Part One there is a little bit about his background, not very specific.

It is intellectual in the sense that it brings new information from sources outside the range of my common experience. I agree with you that it speaks to my spirituality. I just get the impression that Beam is a scholar of world religions because he seems to me to have that sort of understanding of the sources he quotes.

Happy Solstice to Everyone!
