Sky Sunlight Saxon Of The 60's Band The Seeds Dies
AUSTIN, Texas - Sky Saxon, lead singer and founder of the 1960s band the "Seeds" has died after a brief illness, his publicist said.

Born Richard Marsh, Saxon had recently moved to Austin. He played with his new band, Shapes Have Fangs, on Saturday and went to the hospital on Monday. Publicist Jen Marchand said he died Thursday but did not know a cause of death and could not immediately provide more information.

The Seeds were best known for their singles "Pushin’ Too Hard" and "Can’t Seem to Make You Mine." Saxon had been planning to perform this summer with the California ’66 Revue, a tour featuring a lineup of California bands from the 1960s.

I know Farrah Fawcett will get all the attention but the death of Sky Saxon is just as sad, truly an original and a pioneer of garage rock and a major influence on 70's punk rock, he will be missed.

1. it will understandably be lost among the Farrah and Michael Jackson news...
I loved The Seeds; still have that album with Pushin Too Hard ( on cassette tape), and had thought about either that or can't Seem to Make You Mine as one of 2 or 3 covers I want to put on a CD of mostly original stuff I'm just starting to work on. Absolutely right : an original and a pioneer who was doing punk (and to me, grunge too) years before those genres had a name.

2. Yeah I posted this before Michael Jackson died
So it will definitely be forgotten now. It is too bad Sky Saxon was one of a kind.

4.  A great shame. He fronted a great band, and introduced a style
that is very copied even today. Didn't get much credit for any of it, either.
