How would I preserve eggs?
Long story, but basically I have a house finch that built a nest in a wreath on my front door. 5 eggs were laid, but only one hatched, probably because of a nasty freeze we had right after they were laid.
After the baby gets old enough to leave, we'd like to preserve the eggs and nest if possible. Any ideas on how to do this?

1. If you just take the eggs inside they will dry out in a few months
If it's a House Finch, this would be illegal, but if it's a House Sparrow knock yourself out.

Or just don't have anyone from Fish and Game over for dinner. ;)

2. Are house finches endangered?
why the restrictions on their eggs?

The mother laid 5 eggs, but only one hatched. After 4 weeks, its safe to say they wont hatch.

3. They are a native species, hence the protected status
Arguably the Eastern population could be considered an introduced species, however.

4. All native birds are protected
It's sort of stupid, and it's sort of necessary. It's also stupid that it's necessary, ya know?
