There is a very lucky DU'er... if my ID is right
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=7391029&mesg_id=7391029

I'm going with this ID based on the vertical barring on the chest and the black around the eyes.

1. That's a great yard bird
sure beats my pigeons...

I'm going to try and see the Long-eared Owls in Ohio again soon, there's some that aren't as skittish as the traditionally viewed ones in Wyandot county...

2. Haven't seen a Long-eared Owl in ages
They used to be pretty regular winter visitors in these parts but that no longer is the case.

In fact, winter owls in general have been very scarce this year (i.e. Snowy, Short-eared). The most remarkable was the winter of the Great Greys a few years ago. While a spectacular birding event, most of the owls, sadly, perished.

I think I would most like to find a Hawk Owl!

9. A dead Boreal Owl was found this week in Wisconsin
On Washington Island, Door County. Apparently a victim of this nasty winter.

I managed to miss Burrowing Owl when I visited Salton Sea years ago and have yet to find one. Have their numbers been increasing there?

10. I dunno about increasing
but if it's a gimme anywhere, it's a gimme there.

I've had 10+ in a night just tooling around, not even trying.

He was the representative for Palm Springs for a while.

Not a bad refuge, really, but at some point everything in this country is going to be named after some crook or has-been. :(
