A small victory in the city........
I moved into my apartment in Oct, and since putting a generic bird feeder with generic bird food in It in January I have not had a SINGLE bird come. But finally this week the House Finches showed up. YAYYYYYYY!!!!!

I have missed my feathered friends. There were SO many different birds when I lived in the house.......I got spoiled and took them for granted. Never again. The cats just love watching them, and with the sliding glass door open (screen SHUT, lol) we all get to listen to the singing.

Now I feel justified in getting a finch feeder and some black thistle seed for it - I want to attract Goldfinches, which were my favorites (counted over 20 at the two feeders in the yard one time, in full breeding colors).

I have only attracted a grand total of one goldfinch to my feeders. I know they are there, but they do not come to my house. The first one came this year in fact in Feb and I never saw him again. Here he is.

2. I picked up a couple bags of Audubon finch food today.
I was gonna go for black thistle, but didn't want to get a new feeder. THis blend is suitable for the feeder I have. It's sunflower chips, millet, red millet, and black thistle. Hope they like it and don't fling so much away (they HATE sorghum and cracked corn).

3. Sorghum and Cracked corn??? That's pigeon food!
Your new mix should be great, though. Generally, your rule of thumb for good bird seed mixes is a generous amount of black oil sunflower seed with millet and thistle. For finch feeders, black thistle is all you need.
