Mississippi Kite hanging around our birdbaths!
This is so cool! We've had both Swallow tailed kites and Mississippi kites visiting for the last several years. Usually the Swallow tails are just here in March during migration and the Mississippis off and on into early summer. But the last couple of days a Mississippi has been landing at the ground level bird bath/waterers and this afternoon one is swooping over them, probably catching insects hovering over the flower beds. He lands in the oak above the waterers and then swoops down and back up.

I wish I could take pictures to post, but my stupid husband left my camera with his brother to take pics for his mother's birthday party and we haven't gotten it back yet.

Right now he is just sitting in the oak tree - about 30 feet from my library window. Damn, this would be a great chance for a good picture.

3. They must have stayed here! Today I saw an immature hawk that might have been a MS Kite!
If he shows up again, I'll take a closer look at his head.

One of the Swallow Tail Kites flew overhead today, too! Usually they are gone by now, but with the cool front that came through, this one must have decided to come back for a visit.
