DNC chairman Dean tries to shore up Miss. Democratic base
By Emily Wagster Pettus, Associated Press Writer | March 1, 2005

JACKSON, Miss. --New Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean on Tuesday told Mississippi Democrats that their party can include people with a wide range of political beliefs. Speaking to reporters before a state party dinner in Jackson, the former Vermont governor said Democrats who call themselves "pro-life" should be comfortable in the party.

"I think the biggest difference between pro-life people in the Democratic Party and pro-life people in the Republican Party is that pro-life Democrats care about children after they are born, not just before," Dean said. Dean, an early front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination last year before his campaign faded after early primaries, was set to speak to a standing-room only crowd of about 900 at the Clarion Hotel near downtown Jackson.

<snip>

In a conference call last week, Dean told Mississippi reporters: "Democrats are not going to give up on supposedly Republican states." Dean said that in Jackson, he'd talk about health care, jobs, strong national security and balanced budgets. He said he wrote balanced budgets as governor, but the Bush administration has run up the national debt. "You can't trust Republicans with your money," Dean said during the conference call.

<snip>

In Mississippi, Democrats hold more county elected positions and legislative seats than Republicans. But the governor, lieutenant governor and two U.S. senators are in the GOP. Gov. Haley Barbour is a former Republican National Committee chairman.

"You can't trust Republicans with your money," Dean said during the conference call.

That would be a more than appropriate slogan during the 2006 Congressional Elections. Sounds kind of catchy.

6. agreed...i have been using that line for a good week now...
and its starting to sink in among my co-workers, its become a good catch-line...

cant get good health ins...can't trust rethugs with your money

lost your job, unemployment ran out...can't trust rethugs with your money

gas prices going through the roof...can't trust rethugs with your money

worried about SS not being there for you...can't trust rethugs with your money

ok you get it...the catch phrase is a good comeback to any bitching about money, job, general complaining etc (biching about shit at work should be considered the national past time you know) and it reinforces a negative rethug impression and ties it to why life is stressful etc.

2. Dean is doing great as Chair, but I wish the media would stop
talking about him being the front runner before losing the primary. For god sake, that's over and done. He's now the DNC Chairman. Is there sonething wrong with just saying the DNC Chair spoke.....

4. They're just giving a bit of background info. Not everyone knows
who Howard Dean is (as crazy of a thought that is).
