Dean:4 errors from you , pls fix
Edited on Wed Mar-16-05 11:52 AM by oscar111
Just got email from Dean, who i really like.

But his call to sign a petition to stop the GOP end of filibustering, had 4 fatal errors:

1. I filled in the laborous many fields to sign, and a box poped up --- "you must fill in these fields" and listed every one i had just fully filled in.

2. Dean's essay in his email to me, never spelled out the truly motivating fact: GOP plans to end all fillibustering. Dean just tiptoed vaguely around it by saying GOP plans "to change things". A weak and less motivating phrase than the reality others have reported in chilling detail. Dean, you are overworked and need to catch up on sleep. We are all for you, so pace yourself.

3. Other activist sites use software that automatically fills in those fields like name, addy, address. Many of us haven't the time to fill those in for every petition. I shudder when i see lots of "fields" and i go do other emails.
--- DNC, get up to date and up your response rate... i bet it will add 80% more responses. Truemajority.org uses the software from GetActive.com.

4. Dean is sending us to the old clunky glitchy ugly DNC site for his petition. He needs to clean up that site and get it to work. He needs to also have DNC answer email about glitches, at the very least.
---And no fields before contacting DNC. My congressman does not demand any fields. Just opens up an email page with the congressman's addy already entered. Nice. Have a volunteer weed out the hate mail, not a barrier of fields.

Oscar, who tried to sign Dean's petition, and could not.

1. sad but true
Easy to use websites are the single most important part of online commerce.

You have to imagine that Dr. Dean knows this and is working on it.

Right? *crosses fingers*

2. Just call up the office and let them know the errors.
I'm sure they'll fix it ASAP. Telling us isn't going to solve the problem though.

3. A few points:
1. Contact the site's programmers — Dean doesn't actually key in the site.

3. It's not the site that does that, it's your browser. Do you have cookies enabled (and those will only work if you've filled in something on that site before)? Have you cleared your cache recently? The site doesn't remember info, unless there's a "remember this on this site" box to check.

4. See #1.

Here's the link you can use to write them, and there's a pull down box to indicate your comment is regarding the DNC website:

4. emails to DNC produce no fixes! over years of sending them, no fixes,
Edited on Wed Mar-16-05 01:02 PM by oscar111
not even replies to my emails such as
"thanks we will consider all input".

contacting programmers? they only act if honchos order them to.

In the past, my browser has done ok, and i have gotten fields filled in without today's box popping up to say "fill in fields" after i just filled them in.

fault is theirs not my browser.

Cookies are enabled and work fine at places like truemajority.org.

I am not a phone call type. I use email, .. but thanks for the good idea. I wrote it all here, hoping someone here is buddies with DNC folks.

Contact page has same inoperative fields barrier.

Dean needs to key in the site, whatever that means. He needs to be all over that site in person at least till the many bugs are gone.

Site is after all, how DNC relates to the millions.

PS if you have time...
the site is ugly. And, why is every page way down under a lot of repeated stuff? at first, i saw only the repeated stuff, and thought i had not gotten any new page at all.
The uglies... i have a b and white monitor.. site is mostly shades of tan, looks dingy and not so easy to read as DU. DU looks bright! easy to read. DNC, just copy DU. Very few glitches here, too. Love DU.

Overall effect of DNC site and unreplying to contacts from me:
aloof, dumb people at DNC, sitting around drinking pop, talking all day and not attending to the site for many years.

5. "Key in the site" means he doesn't do the programming.

Send snail mail, then. People pay attention to that.

Edited to add: I've not had any problem with the DNC site.

6. we shouldnt have to resort to snail. 2. did you fill in fields

and not get the box "fill in fields"?

perhaps it works only with expensive cprs. DNC needs to work with peons like many dems are... that have basic gear.

sadly, many programmers are hot for the newest toys and look down their noses at old gear.

PS i know he doesnt program personally, but he pays those who DO.
He alone has the power to make them jump.

DNC needs that software that automatically fills in fields. Many dont have time to fill in four fields for every petition or email to the Senate. We are not the idle rich here. LOL.

NYC girl, thanks anyhow, value your input, keep posting.

7. right on and there are plenty of engineers out of work
they could hire a ton of people who have been displaced through
outsourcing to design new tools.

Come on DNC, get a techie advisor who actually makes things!
