Texas Democrats Turn to the Bible
Attention, Texans!

Texas Democrats Turn to the Bible
United Press International
DALLAS, April 4, 2005

Meetings of the House Democratic Caucus in Austin now include weekly morality and Bible lessons and talks by clergymen, The Dallas Morning News reported Monday.

Rep. Trey Martinez Fischer of San Antonio has produced the religious programs to show lawmakers how to reframe the debate in terms that support their views.

"For me, religion has always been a private matter, but in the wake of false prophets working in political circles, it's important for us to talk about religion and talk about it accurately," he said.

Democrats say Republicans talk about abortion and homosexuality, but they want to turn the values debate toward social justice issues like healthcare spending for the poor.

The responses so far (yes, no, and maybe so, wait and see) put the lie to that notion.

7. I see nothing wrong with this
It might do the Republicans some good to be reminded of some of the New Testament teachings. Such as helping the poor, treating others as you would have them treat you. And I hope other legislators of other religous faiths also speak about their beliefs.

Its not religion or patriotism that is bad. It is how a group of extremists have hijacked these noble virtues to serve their own selfish means. Nothing that W and his gang have done are what I learned in Sunday School.

8. I'm not sure how I feel about this....
I don't like the idea of using the enemy's words for things. It acknowledges the whole "we are a christian nation" bullshit.

10. Bad news
But it's Texas, so it's probably all we can do down there. If Billy Bob and Billy Joe want gawd talk, we might as well give em some. :(
