How do we stop Fundi Xstians voting GOP being joined by average Christians

In a discuusion about getting Democratic Party leaning groups off their asses and voting Democratic this year, it was noted to me that while we expect to lose most of the Fundi Christians, we get "not voting" from left leaning and Democratic Party leaning moderate Christians.

The problem is suggested as being the party image - where the GOP has sold the standard "soft on war/defense and getting folks to work" - plus the Bush "they were taken over by atheists who ridicule and mock believers" mantra.

Indeed when I try to find out why middle of the road and left of center Christians refuse to vote the answer is they do not want to vote for the GOP and they will not vote for a Democratic party where they are treated like crap.

When we discuss the constant atheist pity party that tells us "the Christians are in charge of everything" thereby giving license to atheists for both "woe is me" and "Christians are not reasoning, not logical, not scientific, not good, not having real ethics because the choose ethical behavior for the wrong reason, Christian Democrats are willing to kick atheists and gays to the curb, etc.", I tell them they need to get past that noise because the Democratic Party is 90% Christian - and that is just background noise that should not affect their vote. Indeed the "you will kick us to the curb insult" by a small group that rarely votes is not something to worry about. Everyone wants their issue to be first in line, and the noise by the gays and atheist are just an attempt to be first in line.

But it is hard getting the liberal Christians to vote Democratic - we should be getting 90% of that liberal Christian vote, but we get about half because of the stay at homes.

Getting groups off their asses and voting Democratic this year will not be easy.

you can divide "Christians" into fundamentalist and liberal camps. There are a lot of moderates who are "Christian." And there are a lot of folks who do make a distinction between faith and politics - and who understand the relationship much differently than what is popularly portrayed.

Voter participation in our society is quite poor. It is an issue that extends far beyond issues of faith and politics.

But I have a question...are they truly treated like crap or have we let the neocons once again take the issue and frame it that we are the immoral party because we support the rights of all Americans. Maybe we need to take it up from the micro level, gays,atheist, abortion, womens issues and move it up to the next level, Democrats support equal rights for All Americans.

We reach these Christians by pointing out that the very right to practice their chosen religion is in jeopardy. For example if you look at the Churches that have received * Faith Based initiative monies, which churches have gotten the money? Not all Christian churches are the correct churches for this administration.

Keep reminding them of Katrina and ask them was it the "Christian" thing to do to leave fellow human beings suffering and dying in the only homes they knew. Was it the "Christian" thing to do to watch the babies and the elderly suffer...

And remind them that this administration has neglected and forgotten 2 major cities in America. What will happen when it is their city, will mismanagement of a disaster cause them their lives or their children's lives.

Is this the Christian thing to do....
This administration is more excited about rebuilding foreign cities than rebuilding American cities. This administration is more willing to cut off access to the elderly and children to fund their war

Just a few thoughts...

think that there is a greater evil than some background noise by some interest groups, but talking to older folks over coffee and tea and they write off the Dem party for such reasons as "they treat us Christians" like crap as seen by comments about the logic of religion.

As you know you can not just tell folks they are wrong - but I like the positive approach of saying what we are fighting for.

I think in the realm of things and the micro issues we need to remind the Christians that the gays, the atheists, the womens rights groups etc they are someones children, someones sister, brother, son and daughter. They are Americans in America trying to make it like everyone else.

Afford gas to get to the polls, their children are back work in the mines for pennies, Their parents are volunteerly going off into the woods to die, When they are about to do a hitch in debtors prison. And then they will blame it on Clinton.
