IRA 'has destroyed all its arms'

The IRA has put all of its weapons beyond use, the head of the arms decommissioning body has said.

General John de Chastelain made the announcement at a news conference accompanied by the two churchmen who witnessed the process.

"We are satisfied that the arms decommissioned represent the totality of the IRA's arsenal."

1. I listened to the BBC World Service at work today...

along with my Brit boss. I think he was totally amazed at the historic steps taken today by Óglaigh na hÉireann.

For me it was a little bit of a let down. I know that the Armed Struggle is over and that is a good thing, but, the struggle was justified. I think the recent Unionist actions show how right physical force was.

Many days of hard work lay ahead for the Republican Movement. I wish them good luck and hope that all is yet achievable.

2. Saw U2 last night

When a fan gave Bono an Irish flag, he praised the IRA leaders for their bravery in giving up their arms.

3. I was amazed at the restraint they showed during the recent crap

The loyalists were trying to get them back in the streets and the IRA stayed out of it. The police performed fairly well, too--they are not just the RUC-redux, altho there is still changes that must be made (Catholics now make up just under 19% of the force vs @ 40-45% of the population, but that's up from 8% five years ago).
