Michael McGoldrick is sitting in for Sarah Allen (maternity leave) and I get to hear John Joe Kelly play bodhran that should be a treat and a half.

The boys were in great form. John Joe Kelly is a master bodhran player for sure as his solo was one of the highlights of the evening. They did a couple of Matt Molloy tunes and a couple from Sharon Shannon as well. Most were original flute compositions written by McGoldrick and Finnegan for family members, friends etc and half of them did not have names as yet. I did recognize the Sligo reel but that is about it. Finnegan said it was great to have Michael back because he likes to play in 7/8 time. "here is s waltz for ye in 7/8 time"

At the end we talked to Mr. McGoldrick and I asked him how we could get Kate Rusby on a plane back to the states for a tour. She did fly to Spain recently but he said America is just to big and the tours are to long. Who can blame her, she sells out tours of the British isles on a consistent basis.

During the show they dedicated a tune to a 14 year old kid in one of the front tables (small town Iowa USA) and Finnegan said he was scared of this kid he could play so well. After the show they sat down with him and this kid lashed out the tunes on the flute that were amazing. I have no idea who he is but he won't be anon for long. Two of the best flute players in the world are smiling from ear to ear sitting there watching you play, what a thrill for the young fella.

You should have tried to get the kid's name at least--so you can say you heard him back before.

I have seen his family when Danu played there twice before. I am sure the kid will be there and I will ask. He was so busy playing for the guys I didn't want to interrupt them.
