2. A lot of people in Ireland actually got to see him.
My Irish neighbor told me that Pope John Paul's visit to Ireland was just the most remarkable experience. People traveled from around the country to see him, finding themselves, according to my friend, sitting in a stranger's house at God knows what hour of the night, drinking a mug of tea from their temporary host. A remarkable percentage of the Irish population got to see the pope.

Knowing John Paul's reputation, he probably tried some Gaelic on the crowds, too, which must have gone down very well.

9. Thanks Kleeb
Little posts like that mean the most here on DU. Sometimes you aren't sure if you are doing any good. There is a lot of ignorance about Catholics out there on DU.
