X-Men 3: post rants or raves hear. SPOILERS
My raves:

Beast - Grammer pulled it off. Nailed it. really surprised me.

Fastball special -yes!

Sentinel cameo - very cool, but should have been what the movie was about.

Juggernaut: quite possibly my favorite X-men movie villain to date.

Rants:

Disjointed plot - tried to cram in way too much. For example, the whole Angel subplot was extraneous and unnecessary.

Professor X/Cyclops: WTF? seriously.

New team members thrown in with no explanation as to why they graduated to the team from the school (kitty pride, colossus)

Colossus: He's a RUSSIAN, DAMN IT! Not an American!

Floor's open!

4. sorry *spoilers*
I have posted a few times in the DU lounge about this, and on the imdb.com boards, so you can understand why I'm hesitant, to retype things, over again...but, I will give you my short short ...

Good things-

1. Fully showing Magento's powers, I liked how he saved Mystique, and moved the Golden Gate, very good action...

2. Beast, Kelsey did a great job...

3. Juggernaut, his suit didn't look that bad, and at leats he was in the flick...

Bad things-

1. To many mutants, that come out of nowhere, and for no apparent reason.

2. Juggernaut is not a mutant

3. Magneto saves Mystique, only to leave her naked on the trailer? WTF is up with that?

4. Rogue giving up her powers

5. Professor X dying, but he comes back, at the end of the credits...

6. Cyclops dying, wtf? Why not just drop an A BOMB on the mansion, and kill everyone off too, shit, you are half way there!

7. I will stop here...there are more things...but, from a comic book perspective, they botched this film, from a movie goer perspective, the story was jumbled, and odd at times, pacing was off...the major action sequences were good, but there were two major action scenes...

8. Oh, yeah, Jean Grey...wtf, she stands around looking mean...doing nothing half the time...the phoenix saga, was...well, pitiful in this movie, but again, going from comic to screen is rough, but Ratner, and his crew...well, didn't do such a great job...

btw, Superman Returns 6/28/06.....:)

"You wrote that the world doesn't need a savior, but everyday I hear people crying for one."-Superman Returns

6. okay
remember very early in the movie, where professor X is talking to the other telepaths about ethics...and he shows a vegetable man in a coma, in a hospital of sorts?

Well, at the very end of the credits, it shows that man again, and you see him move a little bit, and he says "hello, to the nurse" and its Professor X's voice...and thats how it ended...

8. yeah, you have to nowadays
have you ever seen A Knights Tale? at the very end, it shows all of them, having a farting contest, sitting atop a well....

In Constatine, at the very end, it shows the young kid, turning into an Angel....

about half way through the credits of Daredevil, you see that Bullseye is still alive, in the hosptial...

Nowadays you have to stick around, for the whole thing. I waiting until the end credits of Superman Returns, hoping to see a sneak peek of the new villian in superman returns II or something nifty, and there wasn't shit...but my rule of thumb is, stick around or miss something cool...

2. Haven't seen it yet, but a comment on some of the critiques I've read
I'm sick to death of every professionaly reviewer pointing out the mutantness/homosexuality symbolism. Anyone who's read more than three panels of an X-Men comic understands the metaphor (linked also to the civil rights struggles of the 60's, of course), so it infuriates me when the reviewer adopts a "see how clever I am" stance while pointing it out.

A few other notes:

The American Colossus annoyed me in X2--sorry to hear that it's repeated here

Sentinels: Somewhere during production I read that a Sentinel-based plot would have been too expensive. Huh? The film cost around $200M as is, thanks in part to the huge paychecks for the actors.

The Fastball Special that I saw in preview seemed to have Colossus spin around, discus-thrower-style, before launching Wolvie. Is this correct?

Another reviewer commented that "Oh my stars and garters" is a typical Frasier-esque line, and they patted Grammer on the back for it. My old comic collection is about 400 miles away, but I distinctly recall our pal Hank McCoy uttering that line in X-Men 137, and I expect that it appeared earlier. The better way to phrase the critique IMO would have been to acknowledge that the line is part of the series' history, though Grammer's delivery is no doubt essential. (Whatever else can be said of The Fantastic Four, Chiklis really nailed the (honestly ridiculous) line "It's clobberin' time." Delivery is everything!)

When I get to see it on DVD, I'll likely have more comments.

3. The discus throwing fastball is correct
but considering that there are no "giant" mutants in the film, it makes sense, physics-wise.

That was one thing I had wondered about prior to the movies. Characters like Colossus and Juggernaut are freaking HUGE. Colussus towers over Wolverine, which in the comics allows for him to chuck Wolverine like a spear. And Juggernaut is just monstrous, obviously way larger than any actual human being could reach.

Another minor complaint: Juggernaut is not a mutant, therefore immune to the effects of a certain mutant in the film...
