Superman Returns Thread
I just saw the movie last night, and I give it an 8 out of 10. There were a couple of beefs that I had, but I'm not going to spoil it...I all ready did a job of that in the "Lounge"...

I thought it was great, the special effects, flying, and all of that was awesome, and soars above and beyond what the previous 4 superman films did, in terms of effects, obviously..:)

I did like Singers take on Supermans emotional side, the Lois/Richard/Jason angle...but thats enough, of that...I hope you all enjoy the movie, and if you want some spoilers, let me know and I will respond...;)

I thought we were talking about Roman.

Anyway, I'll likely have to wait for DVD to see ol' Big Blue.

4. Thats okay...:)
Dvd might be better, actually...rumor has it, that an additional 20 mintues is going to be on the dvd release...:) I plan on seeing SR again friday night, seeing it once, isn't good enough for me, i missed to much, and I kept catching myself judging the damn movie, like i was grading someone kids homework...I think, i worked myself up a bit to much over the movie, and I felt like i was going through an internal checklist in my head...but i'm sure, every fan does that, with their favorite character...

5. it did not suck
but not a great superman movie...lex was portrayed as a buffoon...and superman did not go toe to toe with anyone...it was really just a melodrama....ho hum...wake me up when they have a plot that befits a man of steel...

if i were to do the next supeman movie i would have him mano y mano with braniac in outer space for the fate of the solar system...with guest stars of green lantern and martian manhunter...with the climax of the film being the murder of superman's son and the subsequent fight to the death with brainiac!

this crap of superman movies being comedic chick flicks is lame lame lame....ok i changed my mind it sucked becouse it missed the whole point of superman as a comic book hero,

the special effects were good...

6. man, the budget for something
Edited on Mon Jul-03-06 03:31 AM by petersond
like that would be HUGE. I didn't see Lex Luthor as a baffoon either, but to each their own. I thought he was a lot darker, meaner in this movie. And, chick flicks? Did you think the same with spiderman movies? MJ and Peter parker were doing the circle jerk for two whole movies, and that pissed me off beyond belief. But in SR, that is the first time you see any emotional depth between superman/lois. There was some in superman II, but it didn't go as far as SR did. And most people I talk to, say superman is to noble, or perfect, and never goes through anything emotional, well SR takes care of that...:)

Did you forget some things? Are you mad, did somebody steal your commode cheese?..:)

There was action, just nothing toe to toe...have you ever seen anyone save a jetliner, like superman did?

Have you ever seen anyone get shot in the eye like that?

Have you ever seen superman use multi functioning abilites at the same time, in past movies? Damn, superman was flying around saving people, using his heat vision to obliterate debris...

Did you forgot him catching the daily planet globe...

Did you forget him catching that falling steel worker, and putting him on the ground, without missing a beat?

Did you miss the homage to Superman #1 in Action Comics, when he saved Kittys mustang?

A picture of Glen Ford on Ma Kents piano

Jack Larsen playing the bartender

Noel Neil, playing the rich heiress...

and Singer had the ballz to finally give superman a damn kid, he finally said "yes, superman/lois can have a kid, here you go!"....:) The battle of the geeks is still raging on that one...

Have you ever seen any hero, pick up an entire continant, while his major weakness, is creeping closer and closer to him?

Have you ever, in any superman movie, seen superman recieve such an ass beating, than what Luthor and his cronies put on him?

I think, you were expecting something, a lot different, when you went to go see this movie....but, alas...here is the kicker...

New Krytpon is floating out in outer space...with at least 6 other kryptonian crystals aboard it...what is going to happen with NK floating out in space? Me thinks, brainaic. If you noticed, when superman tossed Nk out into space, the krytponite was still growing through the base, and I swear, I saw a circular formation, of green...me thinks, it was a skull shape...me thinks, he did the same thing, he did with the phoenix symbol, in Xmen II....:)

on edit: Nice to see you around again, haven't seen you for a while...been on vacation, or just busy?

7. hey there
Edited on Mon Jul-03-06 10:41 AM by cleofus1
boy you sure did put some effort into that post....i admire that!
me i'm more of the lazy poster type...but i will try to give a reply...

spiderman went toe to toe with real supervillains...doc ock and the green goblin...
superman catching planes...and bullets bouncing off him are weak...weak...no comparison to the battle between doc ock and spidey or the aerial battle with the green goblin...
and both superman and clark are played very childlike...emotional depth? yeah if you're a 10 year old...

i will say the best part of the movie was superman saving the space shuttle...of course a space shuttle can't attack you...literally anyway...tho the debris was a little pesky...
all that stuff superman did from catching the globe to catching the falling dude etc were ok...but should not fill a whole movie...the man of steel is not a crossing gaurd....

as for the nods and winks (homages?) i prefer my movies not to be so self concisous...no winks at the camera please...as for the ass beating...i wish i had been there...routh is kinda annoying...he acts like a child...he should be acting like a big blue boy scout...not a naive camp fire girl...

and for the kid...as i have said...i hope brainiac kills him in the next movie...he's just a weak plot device to bring in the children's market...

money wise it could be done right...they did hellboy perfectly...look at the special effects in resident evil...it can be done...

nice post tho...you really loved this movie eh?

8. didn't love
it, but thought it was great...do you have the same gripes with superman the movie as well? Superman didn't do anything but lifting/saving things in that movie either...:) I'm just saying, I believe you came to the theaters expecting a superman smack down, wwe style...when in truth, I thought Singer did a decent job, reintroducing the character back into the main stream...:)

Emotional depth, huh...so you tout spiderman being action filled, but forget the I love MJ, i don't love her crap, and you think thats more emotional? Give me a break man, superman had more emotional depth than that. My only gripe with spiderman I and II, was the MJ , does she love me, hate me rhetoric...I guess, you feel the same with Superman Returns. I do to a certain degree, it made no sense for superman, to not tell lois he was clark at the end, the damn child is his for crying out loud...damn....

But about the rest of your comments, I disagree completely. Sorry...:) BTW, what would spiderman do, about saving the space shuttle anyway? Call the avengers in of course!...:) Like I mentioned before, I believe people came into this movie, thinking of Xmen3 type fights, and action...and I bet all of them were disappointed. I thought Routh did great, I thought he looked a lot like superman. Speaking of Xmen 3, they could have done this one SOO much better, way to many mutants...As for Kate Bosworth, I didn't like her...I don't see why superman would like a tooth pick....but anyways.

No mention, about what New Krytpon is doing floating in space...still growing, with at least 6 crystals on board...but, I do love arguing comics, its fun...:)

A question about Doc Ock, I thought he was a regular man, with robotic arms...I didn't know he could go toe to toe with spiderman, who technically, if he hit doc ock, he would knock the dog piss outta him, cause doc, doesn't have a constitution worth shit....you tout spiderman stopping a train, but down play superman lifting an entire continant while his main weakness is getting closer to him...hmm...:) BTW, Spiderman III looks great, but I still have problems with Topher Grace as Venom. I figured he would pick an actor somewhat bigger, so they could go from cgi to real shots...

I also saw the Transformers teaser the other day, it looks promising. I also have to check out Ghost Rider...they should have the trailer on line, somewhere....

10. Hey now
settle down now...:) Well, superman's my man, so of course I'm biased, I will never lie about that...:) I cant wait for the sequel. Oh, btw, another thing, food for thought. Lex has superman's dna, on that busted kryptonite shank....remember, lex looked down at the shank, and it had supes blood on it and he pocketed it? Maybe, its bizzaro, in the sequel...maybe...;)

11. Venom
I think that they probably plan to have Eddie Brock as a mousy, non-physical guy, and Topher Grace can play that pretty well. I wonder how they'll explain the symbiote's origin, because it seems unlikely that they'll do a Marvel Superheroes Secret Wars film between now and the release of Spiderman III!
