Strategy Forum thread
Edited on Wed Jan-09-08 01:52 PM by Perky
Ok Big questions

We need Moderators

We need rules of engagement (maybe pinned at the top of the page)

Do we need a marketing plans...Or just invite those we know who areinterest as much about process ?and outcomes as they do about their candidacy?

Oh.

I am Steve, Metro DC area and I am supporting Obama.

1. Rules of engagement
Maybe one of the rules could be that talk is of strategy only at this point rather than specific, named candidates.

Goals for the strategies should be posted--example--a strategy to make sure our nominees for office are all progressive and not DINOs (I'm assuming since this is in Congress, you are talking about Congressional, rather than Presidential, races)

Ideas and Issues are to be stressed over Personalities.

How are those for rule ideas?

5. Just wandered in here
So you don't think it is wise strategy to have a general plan to launch progressive candidates in a primary? I wouldn't go into specifics. But I know that some of the Democrats from my state vote with Bush 94% of the time, for example. But hey, whatever you want. Just trying to be helpful.

7. Here is what we are all about
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x4009599

We are just using the Congress forum as a place to plan out the establishment of the forum. It is inended to be about Presidential policits. But I am sure it will pivot to COnressional strategy at some point.

2. is this where we get to flame everyone?
just kidding.

I'm mostly looking for a place to discuss the campaigns and their strategies without (or as little) emotional investment.

I'm torn. My primary isn't until May and as a city host of my town Drinking Liberally I've worked hard at staying undecided. However, it is fun to get emotionally invested in the campaigns and cheer for your guy (or gal) and toss the other guy (or gal) under the bus.
I don't have a team, but I want to play, as it were.
As long as it stays an intellectual exercise rather than taking it personally would that be allowed here.

Are is that not the idea of this at all?

And for the record, I'm Tom, southeastern NC and lean toward Obama, neutral toward Clinton, some old issues with Edwards but would be glad to work for any of them in the general.

4. Hi Tom, welcom to a temporary homefor a potential new forum.
Iwould like to keep the forum as flame proof as possible. GD-P is a moshpit and otseems like polical calculus falls on deaf ears over there.

This is Wndycitys idea. I would prefer to let him/her lead the discussion about how to establsh the rules. I don't think we need to advertise the forum on other birds. In fact I would be happy if it stayed at something like 200 people max.

10. I'm not really looking for flames
but to some anytime you mention anything slightly negative it's a flame.

6. "how to establish a forum"
One of the best things about DU Groups is that members have the ability to suggest new groups to the Administrators of Democratic Underground. If you wish to suggest a group, please follow this procedure:

1. Start one discussion thread in the forum of your choice to tell people about your idea for a DU Group.

2. In that thread, you must get responses from at least ten DU members who agree to be active participants in the suggested DU Group. All ten members to respond must have donor stars.

3. In that thread, members must agree on a proposed mission statement for the DU Group.

4. When enough members have signed on to join the group and have agreed on a proposed mission statement, one member must officially suggest the DU Group to a DU Administrator (Skinner, EarlG, or Elad), by sending an email. Please be sure to include a link to the thread where members have discussed the proposed Group.

5. The Administrators will consider the request and make a decision. The Administrators will either 1) Accept the Group as it is proposed, 2) Deny the Group outright, or 3) Ask for changes to the Group or its mission statement which would be necessary for its approval.

6. Once the suggested Group has been accepted by the Administrators, the Administrators will create a new DU Group in the "DU Groups" Category forum, and pin the mission statement of that Group to the top of that Group's forum.

If you are considering a DU Group on a controversial topic, the Administrators would appreciate if you contacted us before collecting your ten members, so we may discuss any sensitive issues. This courtesy will increase the chance that your Group is approved. Also, please be aware that proposed Groups that are redundant with existing DU Forums are unlikely to be approved.

If you have any questions, please contact a forum Administrator.

8. Hi Perky
I'm looking for any serious discussion about policy and strategy, but I really don't have any idea how to create a forum (beyond suggesting we start here in Congress).

I'm in Austin TX. At this time, there are things I like and things I dislike about all of the top three. That's why I'd like to take part in some serious discussion.
