Speaking German, the Hooked-on-Phonics Way (Help!)
I need some assistance from a DUer in deciphering my grandfather's immigration records. Whoever filled out his papers interpreted my grandfather's place of birth as "Core Hesse". Now the "Hesse" I'll buy, but any guesses about where in Hesse he was from? What might have sounded like "Core" to an American with a bad ear?

1. Hmmmm...
I just checked here...

http://feefhs.org/maps/gerw/gw-hesse.html

Looks like there is an "Orb" showing on the eastern postion of Hesse Darmstadt (the topmost portion)

And I think I see something that looks like "Corb" in the southwestern portion, butting up against the Rhine.

Maybe put something in the Travel forum as well. We may have some well-traveled Germans that could give you some more hints.

2. Thanks very much for your help!
My grandmother's family was from Hannover, so I'm assuming that wherever this place is has to be in the general area of Hannover.
