Introduce your blog here
Edited on Tue Feb-22-05 06:19 PM by pmbryant
Thanks to displacedtexan for organizing this group. This thread seems like a good way to kick things off in here.

To introduce my blog: it is unimaginatively titled "B and B" (after the last names of me and my life partner). Here is the URL: http://pmbryant.typepad.com

I started it back in August 2004 to help counteract the media's biased portrayal of Kerry and Democrats. I also hoped to get family members around the country involved in a conversation about the campaign--an effort to get them more involved. That last part didn't work out too well, as my family members weren't blog readers and I never could get them in the habit. Even when they'd read it, they'd never bother to add comments. And so the conversations rarely got off the ground.

Oh well.

Eventually I gave up on them and tried to win over readers from the wider blog community. This has been working better, but it is a slow process.

Since the election, I have continued to post about politics periodically, but am also posting more about other topics, particularly science. I found since starting this that I enjoy having an opportunity to write regularly, so I plan to keep this up indefinitely.

How about you?

1. Hey Peter! Here's my blog
It's nothing political or anything...just a little LiveJournal. I started it in 2001 when my husband and I were preparing to move from SC to WA. It was kind of stressful and a friend from another website referred me to LiveJournal.

It's nothing fancy, just the aimless ramblings of a bored Nursing Student in dorky Yakima, WA.

Feel free to read :) and feel even freer to comment on any of the nonsensical blather I carry on about

4. LOVE your blog!
I have a friend who blogs on livejournal as Auntiematter.

I especially agree with your post on abortion threads:
I've grown tired of the whole thing. No matter how much I try, I have learned that there is no use trying to change the thought process of someone whose head is stuck so firmly up their rectum that they...uh...can't think of a witty finish for that insult, so I'll just leave it at that.

Will people ever understand that "The Precautionary Arts" have been practiced by the well-to-do (i.e., those with access to private physicians) for centuries?

Without the court-protected status, butchers will once again kill and maim women at will.

Just my two cents worth on that topic.

5. Hi Heddi!
I've actually looked at your blog a few times since you pointed it out to me a couple weeks ago. I love your writing style and sense of humor.

I tried to make a comment once, and tried again just now. Do I need to register with livejournal to do so?

Great to hear that you're in nursing school now, though perhaps not so great that it is in "dorky Yakima, WA". Hope all is going well.

2. Hey there! Hi there! Ho there!
I'm sooooooooo glad that we now have this Bloggers Group!

I've been blogging since last May, and I actually have over 100 daily readers.

Who would have thought such a thing could happen?

If the sigs are turned on, my blog addy is under the burning bush.

If not, it's:
http://www.ascrivenerslament.blogspot.com/

I've been having fits with blogger.com for over a week now, and I hope folks in this group can help.

The trouble started when I posted some of those Jeff Gannon sex site pics.

This could be a coincidence, but blogger.com froze me out of posting until I emailed the Help Desk and explained the problem.

Then, suddenly, half of my template disappeared (I wasn't editing it), and I had to recreate it.

I still have to replace the site counter and replace the sidebar content that disappeared...

But, Hey! Blogger.com is free! So I really can't complain, can I?

My blog started as a reaction to the fundie media, but, like you, I post topics I'm interested in, cynical about, and just plain whatever I feel like posting!

Thanks for the kind words.

I'd look at your blog now, but you mentioned "Gannon sex pics" and I'm at work, so I suspect I'd better wait until I get home to be on the safe side.

:-)

Perhaps one of us should post in the Lounge to let all the others interested know that this group is operational now.

political parodies, satirical poems, and the occasional rant.

as far as I can tell, no one reads it but... perhaps the lack of comments is because registration is required.

( I was totally freeped when the blog debuted but none of them were willing to sign up to trash me after the admin changed it)

but blogger.com blitzed, and half of my template disappeared yesterday.

Their email reply indicated that it was a bug, and that I should keep a copy of my template just in case.

Duh.

Had I ever in my wildest dreams imagined that half of my freakin' template might disappear, I would have kept a copy.

GGGGRRRRRR!!!

Now I have to find a new hit counter!

Just started this month. I want a place to put down all of the ideas floating around in my head about local politics and activism. I'm not really looking to build an audience, just put down everything I've been doing and thinking about. I find writing really helps me get my mind together somehow.

12. Great blog!
I especially liked your A, B, or C personality type entry.

It seems lately that the entire world has decided to focus on the small group dynamic...

But no one wants to understand how the dynamic works.

In my observation, people just like saying "small group dynamic."

My church (UU) is jumping on the bandwagon right now. Each committee will heretofore be called a "small group ministry."

I find this truly lame.

I'm a Unitarian. I don't need "small group ministry"; I need my Social Action committee to do what we've always done: raise money; raise awareness; and help people.

19. Lean Left
Edited on Thu Mar-10-05 09:45 PM by kcr
I started Lean Left in July of 2002, for a lot of reasons. I was hoping it would get me writing more, would help contribute to the Democratic cause, and would be a fun hobby. I invited my friend tgirsch in the summer of 2003 and KTK a couple of months after that to help maintain a constant stream of writing on the blog.

I do write almost every day now, both for the blog and my fiction (no sales, though) and I like to think I have gotten a little bit better. I have contributed some, I think. I have been interviewed for my local indy paper (the Memphis Flyer) about blogs and politics, I helped raise some money for candidates, I helped dig up some of the CCC dirt on Lott when Atrios was trying to put pressure on him for his Thurmon remarks, I got a piece on Scalia into Buzzflash, some of KTK's work was recently mentioned on Ron Reagan's show on MSNBC, and two of my posts about Rumsfeld are going to be included in a book collecting blog writings on the topic of Rumsfeld that should be out in a month or so.

Its been fun and interesting, and I might actually have done some mall good.

The Blue Republic

My friend and I started it a couple of weeks ago in an effort to put a humorous twist on progressive politics.

Some of our "news" stories are fake, but are clearly marked as such. The rest is a collection of opinion and essays that we've written, along with the usual legitimate news stories that you'll find on the other blogs.

Please check it out and tell me what you think! If you like it, please feel free to sign up as a member. I'd love to hear whatever feedback any of you would like to offer.

Did I actually say "li'l?" WTF? Anyway, my blog, Washington Interns Gone Bad: The Blog, started out as a production diary for my first film (see banner in my sig below) and has since taken on a life of its own with my opinionated, sometimes obnoxious and always unapologetic rantings on politics, film, music, pop culture, and life in general. My wife hates it because she thinks that her Mormon relatives read it all the time and hold it against me, but I sincerely doubt that they even have it bookmarked. So yeah, check it out at http://www.jasonbuckley.com/blog and enjoy.

39. Johnson City Forum -- it's a bar
i started this a few years ago to keep in touch with people who hung out in the music scene in Johnson City, TN back when there was a scene. it's a team blog, so people email me to sign up and then can post. i think of it as a meeting place where people can pull up a chair and talk, vent, share news, or just see what's up. it probably confuses people because you'll rarely find Johnson City news or content. rather, the contributers (for the most part) have a connection to the place. and that's not exclusive either. anyone can join.

i didn't have a political mission in mind, but that's where discussion has lead and that's way cool with me. if people want to post haiku or pictures of bunnies that's fine too.

it's a place where everybody knows your name...

I created my Blog several months ago. I named it Progressive Phoenix because a Phoenix rises from the ashes to live again and that is what I was thinking about following the Nov Election Loss.

It has since expanded somewhat to be a place where I can express myself in general. Several entries have been published at Salon and a few of my local newspapers. One such published post was an article about Battlestar Galactica of all things lol. There have been times with long gaps between posts. Sometimes I just do not get the inspiration to post, so thats the area I need work.

Any useful or helpful comments and critiques are welcome!

The site is dedicated to all the blunders, slips of the tongue, gaffs, etc.
Their words will now come back to haunt them.

A combination of Comics, Logic, and Blogging

The intention of this blog is to showcase all the various scandals that are affecting/effecting/infecting our nation.

The main focus will be a series of comic book styles; published on the web, video, and print.

To sum up, comics/cartoons with commentary by yours truly.

I am also glad that we now have a Community where we can discuss all the different topics that blogging entails!

I will have to find time to visit everybody's blogs that were posted here.

52. Ours has moved
We installed wordpress over the weekend and being completely nontechnical sorts, we can't get it to display on the page where our old blogger.com blog displayed. OY! What a pain in the ass!

But here we are, with some tweaking and fixing up and learning more about wordpress still to be done, but we're functional:

We invite comments and participation from DUers.

53. OK, how did you do that?
Edited on Wed Jun-07-06 07:11 AM by displacedtexan
Edited to add: Your blog looks great, btw!

I've been tempted to leave blogger.com for a long time, but
I'm afraid I'll lose my links and blog posts.

Can you outline the steps necessary steps involved
in setting up wordpress and leaving blogger.com?

54. I'd be happy to help you if I can!
Mind you, I am a techno-boob who is entirely self-taught on this stuff.

First, do you have your own site you want to set it up on? Or do you want to do a blog at wordpress? If you do one at wordpress, I imagine it's probably pretty much like doing one at blogger - fill in the blanks and you're off.

For your own site, depending on how webmaster-savvy you are and how much time you want to spend agonizing over themes, it can take 5 minutes or an entire weekend. It took me all weekend, but I'd be happy to share what I learned.

Since I don't know what your level of web expertise is, I imagine the best way to go about this is to point you at the instructions and then answer any questions you have. (and if I don't know the answer, which is always a distinct possibility, there are so many bloggers here, someone is sure to know.)

Here are the installation instructions:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress

And if your host is GoDaddy, you need this special info, too. I don't know who this guy is, but I want to hunt him down and kiss him on the mouth. I was going crazy with frustration until I stumbled upon his GoDaddy fix:

55. Thanks for the reply and info.
I can write code (I've changed and/or revamped my blogger.com template
a zillion times).

That's the extent of my knowledge, though.

I'll work on a conversion this weekend, and I'll PM you if I get stuck.

Thanks again,

Delilah

56. My blog's link is in my signature
It's a political blog that mainly comments on news events with links to the stories. I'm actually hoping it will end up being a busy team blog.

58. My Vlog
I started playing aorund with photography and started a photo blog. Boy, was that ever dull. Then I discovered vlogging. So I turned to video, making micro-films. For me, it's more fun creatively. Mostly, I'm adding motion and sound to old travel stills.

Just click the signature image.

I've been doing this one for just over two years. Wanted to do something media-oriented, and came up with an idea of what I wanted to do.

So far, the response has been very positive, and I'm constantly adding new things to it.

66. The Lynnertic
Hello World!

http://www.lynnertic.com
This is my experimental WordPress blog. I get to write what I like here.

My most consistent subject is a "Friday Protest Song" which I try to get to each week. My latest article features a rather obscure track from Earth Opera.

I'm interested to discuss php and tinkering with Wordpress - I'm looking for a good slideshow widget and a way to write articles that span multiple pages. I would've been able to do that in person, at last week's WordPress seminar in SF had it not been sold out.
:nopity:

Thanks in advance for any feedback!
Collette
:hi:

Edited on Fri Mar-21-08 09:37 PM by DubyasWorld
I'm not much of a writer, so my focus is on captioned pictures. My site started as DubyasWorld.com but is now morphing into http://Republican-Elephant.com , still featuring captioned pictures, which by the way, other webmasters are free to use unaltered on their sites if they wish.

Thanks!

69. I have had a blog for years in one form or another
But I always gave them up because I didn't feel they were getting read. So I started a new one about a year ago, posted to it once, and didn't blog again. Well, I paid for the damned thing, so I figure I need to start using it, huh?

It's mostly television related. I thought I posted enough politics here, so make the blog about the "love of my life": TV. While I'm sure I've had a lot to say about TV, it never made it into the blog!

But today I posted to it, with the hope that it will find some readers. I've added it to my list of homepages, so I can log right in and start talking right off the bat, which will stimulate me to write more. I usually go into hibernation over the winter, but it's actually spring now, so I'm hoping this will work.

Anyhow, as usual, I talk too much, so here's the link for those who are interested.
