West Memphis Three case: Have you read Turvey's Crime Scene profile?
Edited on Thu Nov-24-05 04:34 AM by Douglas Carpenter
Mr. Brent Turvey is a highly respected forensic scientist and criminal profiler. Most of his work is for police departments and he works for prosecutions as often as or more often than he does for defense. He is a fairly conservative sort and a strong supporter of the death penalty. He was procured by Jessie Misskelly Jr.'s attorney Mr. Dan Stidham.

In this very gruesome and disturbing crime scene analysis and profile one does not have to use their imagination too much to wonder who might fit the picture.

Although, I would not go so far as to state as a matter of fact that Mr. John Mark Byers did it, I would have to wonder why on earth was he not investigated more thoroughly? The fact that he was working as an undercover drug informant for the WM PD and was on friendly terms with all their investigators might give one an idea.

Anyway if you can handle this gruesome and in-depth read I would highly recommend spending the time. Here is the link:

1. I did read a book about this case, and it is another (sadly)
shocking, seemingly miscarriage of justice. If I remember, there was some father or stepfather on the edges of the case who seemed to be a low-level master criminal himself and who got away with lots of crimes, and may have even killed the kids himself.

2. that is certainly possible...
Furthermore, as an undercover narc he was in very tight with the West Memphis Police who only did the slightest cursory investigation of him in spite of some very disturbing data.

The criminal profile of the crime scene mentioned above was done with the assistance of several of the nations leading forensic evidence. It certainly does not prove any ones guilt. But, it points in the direction of someone very similar to Mr. Byers. And it does not even remotely represent anyone like the three that were convicted; Damien Echols (now on death row with only one more chance to escape executions), Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelly Jr. who are both serving life terms without any chance of parole.

This site provides a wealth of information regarding the case:

5. Did you happen to also see his wife Melissa died...
and it was under fishy circumstances. Most families don't have two murders in the family. Really weird stuff. The stepdad totally did it. I have no doubt in my mind.

6. yes, you might find this interesting -- a forensic analysis of Melissa
Byers death. Of course like all forensic analysis it is terribly gruesome... But this one is very interesting:

3. Here is a brief synapses of the story from the FREE THE WEST
MEMPHIS THREE website:

link: http://www.wm3.org/splash.php

"Shortly after three eight-year-old boys were found mutilated and murdered in West Memphis, Arkansas,in May of 1993 local newspapers stated the killers had been caught. The police assured the public that the three teenagers in custody were definitely responsible for these horrible crimes. Evidence?

The same police officers coerced an error-filled “confession” from Jessie Misskelley Jr., who is mentally handicapped. They subjected him to 12 hours of questioning without counsel or parental consent, audio-taping only two fragments totaling 46 minutes. Jessie recanted it that evening, but it was too late— Misskelley, Jason Baldwin and Damien Echols were all arrested on June 3, 1993, and convicted of murder in early 1994.

Although there was no physical evidence, murder weapon, motive, or connection to the victims, the prosecution pathetically resorted to presenting black hair and clothing, heavy metal t-shirts, and Stephen King novels as proof that the boys were sacrificed in a satanic cult ritual. Unfathomably, Echols was sentenced to death, Baldwin received life without parole, and Misskelley got life plus 40.

For over 12 years, The West Memphis Three have been imprisoned for crimes they didn’t commit. Echols waits in solitary confinement for the lethal injection our tax dollars will pay for. They were all condemned by their poverty, incompetent defense, satanic panic and a rush to judgment."

"Complete Fabrication

A crucial witness says her testimony in the West Memphis Three case wasn't true, but a product of police pressure to get results in the death of three children.
Tim Hackler
Updated: 10/7/2004

A woman who provided crucial testimony in the West Memphis 3 case now says her testimony was a complete fabrication.

Victoria (Vicki) Hutcheson says she was told what to say by West Memphis Police Department detectives, and that if she did not testify as instructed they could take her child away from her and implicate her in the slayings."
