New KO Blog is up 3/24/05!
Yes! Boy has he been churning them out lately hasn't he! I don't know what has inspired him so but thank God something has--it more than makes up for the drought we experienced recently!

2.  Wasn't he blogging daily, before the wave of rightwing hostility hit him?
Keith LIKES to write. When he's silent, that's more significant to me than when he's being prolific.

We know he's been struggling with his unfamiliar POLITICAL status. It's not a role he sought, nor one he savors. After the meeting the other night I mentioned how he seems to avoid opportunities to re-engage election-related issues. ( http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=203&topic_id=347552&mesg_id=347724&page= )

No more sidelong references to Gahanna Ohio, to naughty voting machines, or to our obnoxious sec'y of state.

Recall last night -- the story about how "American Idol" displayed incorrect phone numbers for three singers, so if you voted for one you were really voting for someone else? You've got to know KO's free-associating like mad and Diebold references are unquestionably occurring -- he just doesn't let them escape his lips.

He doesn't want to start that all up again, at least not gratuitously. Not without a very good JOURNALISTIC reason.

3. The interesting thing about this most recent blog is how
it's straight out of the newscast. He's spotlighting the interview with the Guardian ad Litem. Is he the only person who interviewed the GAL? I have to admit, I have not been following other people's coverage of the Schiavo case much, although I watched a bit of Dan Abrams' special report the other night after Countdown (and he was wearing the most godawful neon green and black striped tie. But I digress.)

Anyway, I actually read the GAL's report several days ago on that Florida legal blog and I think it's probably the most important thing anyone has said yet about this case. So I think he's got a really good reason to spotlight it, most especially if others haven't interviewed the GAL much.

But, you're right, one can't help wonder if Votergate2004 left a bad taste in his mouth, esp. in light of the 2/22 blog. He's certainly given us no shortage of blogs on Gannon and Spongebob, though.

Ooo, wonder if it's too late for Countdown to give us something tonight on the latest Gannongate revelation? One hopes not....

4. The blog is mostly transcript. That's sort of "cheating," dontcha think?..
... He used to go off the script and stretch out more in the blog.

The steroid and Barry Bonds "blogs" were early scripts for the show. I was able to READ ALONG WITH HIM the other night, as I'd printed it off earlier to read to my husband!

He's responding to fans' demands that he put something in that space. It's okay with me, but I don't think it's going to satisfy people who want something extra from the blogs that they can't get from the broadcast -- esp. since they have staff blogging their own show now (for what?-- for people who can't move their dead rear ends to the TV to watch "Countdown" live OR in the 12 o'clock re-air???).

Off the subject, I wrote again to the show and asked the homepage editor to go back to posting the weekly News Quiz clip (with screen cap), as they used to do. I miss that a lot.

5. in this instance, I don't think it's cheating. It was a smart move, IMHO.
The man he interviewed was articulate and approached the Schiavo controversy with more equanimity, authority, and clarity than we've seen from a lot of people in many long days. Pretty much everything he had to say was worth putting out there for the world to read and ponder and posting it verbatim means that Keith can't be accused of twisting someone else's words. As it is, I expect KO will be getting hate mail from the fundies. Posting a straight transcript from the show was the least incendiary way to get a potent message across. Now if he intends to always crib straight from the show, I might send a nastygram myself :P but with a message this clear and strong, why mess with a Good Thing?

6. I understand what you're saying but the complete transcr. appears tomorrow
... -- altho, as you suggest (and he may be thinking), detracters are most likely to go by what's in the blog.

Those of us who hang on his every word will say, Oh yeah, he said this yesterday.
The rest may benefit by a bit of "review." :-)

7. I think his blog is more visible and widely read than
show transcripts, if for no other reason than a typical blog entry is much shorter than a show transcript and most people just want to visit for a few minutes on their lunch break, not hunker down to read "War and Peace". As for what his detractors are likely to go by, I'm not sure some of them could even find the transcripts. Considering some of the gems he's posted on his blog, I'm amazed that some of them can find their asses with both hands.

8. LOL ... I agree!

It actually takes a bit of determination to locate the transcripts, harder still to find the page where they post "Countdown" e-mail.

One day I started clicking on any link on the MSNBC site that looked interesting, and was amazed at all the stuff they've got hiding in corners -- like, for example, pictures! (Wish there were more of our guy, but there actually were some I hadn't seen -- plus Alison and the others.)

Must include: :loveya::loveya::loveya::loveya::loveya::loveya::loveya::loveya::loveya:

9. Damn--
y'all are a whiny bunch! The man doesn't blog for two weeks and you complain and when he does finally blog--and actually starts churning them out like they are coming off an assembly line--y'all still whine! Are the KOEB ever happy? The poor man--having to make all of these women happy sure is a thankless task!

Seriously, the GAL interview was gripping--and yes, he's the first person I've seen interview the man so it was very interesting for me to see it last night and to read it again this morning. Remember, there are plenty of people who don't see the show who read the blog.
