Countdown skyline mystery solved!

I know at least a few times, Keith has interviewed someone sitting in front of a backdrop of a skyline that none of us watching at the time seemed to recognize...but which we found intriguing, because of the presence on it of a set of distinctive hexagonal towers with their tops outlined in green neon.

Well, tonight I solved the mystery, just by watching Football Night in America. It was the Bolts vs. the Colts in San Diego...and when they showed overhead shots of downtown from the blimp, damned if that set of towers wasn't there.

A little Googling filled in the rest. The mystery building is the Emerald Shapery Center, aka Emerald Plaza:

It's a mixed use building that includes a hotel tower, office tower, atrium, and restaurant/retail space.



So from now on, when Keith interviews a guest and that guest has these towers in the background, you'll know they're in San Diego.

This isn't the only architecturally distinctive design Shapery has come up with, though. Consider this design originally proposed for their "Lotus Tower" in San Diego:



It was supposedly inspired by flower petals. Yeah. Right.

Yet Mr. Shapery seems to think that if people think it looks like something else, well, that's just their dirty minds.

I think I know what Keith would have to say about it. Once he stopped laughing.

Oh well. At least they don't plan to install a fountain on the roof.
