Yep, Ken Starr.

Can't stand the guy, but if wants to take a swipe at the Spawn of Darth Cheney, he can have at it!

:hi: Stitching and watching.

Yeah, who woulda thought Ken Starr might be the one to save us from the evil that is Liz Cheney?

Ah, Dennis, Dennis. So willing to fall on his sword for a principle. Trouble is, he falls on the sword and it's the rest of us who do the bleeding.

6. Hi Berry!
I do like Dennis, but I think he's wrong here. Yes, I'd love to see a public option, or better yet universal healthcare, but holy crap, we need something NOW! How many more people have to die because stubborn people with their own personal agendas are standing in the say of getting something done?

:hi:

31. Dennis has made an entire career out of standing stubborn and alone
on his personal agenda. Hang the consequences to others. It's the reason Cleveland went into default in '78.

That producer running up for her Kanye moment was the most exciting part of the show.

52. I definitely agree on the first two
JLo's grew on me, but I'm starting to back off from that. I like the drapey, flowy ones the best. Demi, the young actress from Up in the Air and Rachel McAdams' dresses were gorgeous, especially the fabric on Rachel's.

59. And Elizabeth Banks
whoever the hell she is, the dress was lovely. Demi looked gorgeous. Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy scared the bejeezus out of me. But the John Hughes tribute was touching.

How many people did JLo sneak in under that (side!) train??

Yes, that was beautiful.

I agree about Sheedy, Molly wasn't quite as bad. The purple was a good color for her, at least. And that tribute was very nice.

Dear Pats, that's precisely the sort of thing I was thinking. The announcer would give the name of some young actor or actress and I'd be thinking, "I have no idea who this person is." At least I knew Anna Kendrick was, having just seen Up in the Air yesterday.

And my personal WTF moment was when the Academy had Lauren Bacall and Roger Corman wave from the audience as though they were the accountants from PriceWaterhouseCoopers, or maybe the cameramen. Lauren freaking Bacall (geb. Betty Joan Perske), who made Key Largo and To Have and Have Not and The Big Sleep!

I know they're cutting back on showing any awards not in the major categories, but somehow they found time for the Ben Stiller shtick and the salute to horror movies...and sometimes they're the same thing. :grr:

83. Agreed!
It didn't only look like they waved from the audience, it looked like they were so far away, the audience had no idea where they were seated. Ben Stiller went on for freakin' evah.

Every year or so, there's a whole crop of people that pop up from shows and movies I've never seen. Last year, it was all the vampire kids.

I Googled Miss Banks; she played Pickles in W.

26. I traded in my smart for a new one on Friday
I had no idea I was going to get a new car when I got up that day, but I got an e-mail from the dealer that they were running a special for $2500 off. I asked him to run the numbers and that if I could trade in my old one, pay it off and lower my payment with a new one, I'd think about it. Well, turns out I lowered my payment by $50 a month and have a new car. I've got a white and black one now. The decision was a no-brainer.

FROM A PERSONAL NOTEBOOK:

Belated thanks to all who have posted comments lately with well wishes for my father, who continues to fight his illness, more than two weeks after he lost wakefulness, and more than six months after he was first hospitalized. Your support is of great value to me (and my thanks to MSNBC for its understanding in this time, and, for that matter, MLB.Com, for providing this oasis where I can immerse myself in the game between trips to his bedside). This is, in fact, what baseball is for.
