:hi: I would grab my vuvuzela, but my mom told me if I did that I'd go blind.

4. Isn't it sick that our president is on TV talking about a disaster
and this is how we react?

Well, he's saying all the right things. I just hope it makes a difference.

It is a relief, though, seeing him there vs. Bush.

5. Aw, crap. It sounds like he's leaving it up to Congress to wean us off oil.
By coming up with its own ideas. And passing them.

Good luck with that.

8. I think Chris is spitting.
Obama was very nervous in the beginning, then he got a little more comfortable. I have to agree though. I don't know exactly what the point of that speech was.

Keith says he expected to hear more details about the energy that's stalled in the Senate. But if he had, Tweety would be skawking about using the crisis to advance his own selfish agenda!

11. I had to run and turn the TV down.
I wanted to hear the speech, and it seemed a little low. Then, all of a sudden, a screaming Chris Matthews appeared, followed by a screaming Howard Fineman.

13. I'm asking myself: How would I feel if Bush said this?
And sadly, the answer is: I would think he didn't have a clue.

I mean, that was way more eloquent than Alvin Greene, but I got the impression he knows about as much about what to do about this as Alvin Greene would.

16. Hi all!
I had to change the channel after the speech; Tweety was getting on my nerves.

I've been listening to the calls on C-SPAN and even some Republican callers are being supportive of Obama. One Republican woman said she wanted other Republicans to stop toeing the party line and start thinking for themselves, and listen to what Obama says, and watch what he does. :wow:

I know the speech wasn't supposed to cover everything, and it wasn't for the hardcore politcal junkies, really, anyway, but I liked what he said about BP. I thought he went off a ways on the view for new energy tangent, and it could have included more specifics (or less ambiguity). I don't feel as strongly negative as KO and the Screaming Meemies, though.

I'm happy you heard some nice sounding Republicans. That gives me hope.

47. Exactly!
Then again, with the way this oil cleanup is gonna hit all of us in the wallet, they'll wise up and realize that this is no longer a bipartisan thing, it's a human and environmental thing and we all must band together and get down there to clean up the mess.

But, so much for my mini comment. They're only going to bitch and moan and complain and make Obama look much worse then before, and that'll be fuel to the fire the freepers are gonna use to discredit the President even more.

We were told that if we wanted to make a public fuss or get some press that we could leave the meeting
now. Although I don't like Salazar or THAD now is not the time to fire people.

41. Believe me
I have no problem with President Spock, and I don't need PR stunts and photo ops to make me feel like he's doing something. There's something to be said for the strong silent type.

I could have lived without the wandering vision for a new America, or he should have tightened it up a bit, that's all.

40. Hi Bot! Same here. It's fine for them to have their own opinions
on things; I've got no problem with that. My problem is that so many of them get on their high horses and pontificate, and start coming across as if their opinion is fact, and thus we should all fall in line behind them.

I'm not going to do that.

54. I guess my post from last night never showed up.
So I'm trying to recreate it here.

I, too, am not allowing talking heads (Keith included) to tell me what I think.

It just so happens that this time, Keith agrees with me (maybe more than I agree with Keith).

There weren't enough specifics.

Him saying he felt our pain wasn't enough. I didn't want empathy. I wanted action. (No, not emotion, or drama--action.) And when I say "action," I don't mean he has to plug the hole himself.

I'm just not feeling very good about this right now. Sorry.

That really pisses me off, that BP is telling these workers they can't wear safety gear!!!

Kind of puts them between a rock and a hard place, because on the one hand, these folks need money AND they want to save their coastline, and on the other hand, if they do that, BP wants to make sure they get sick just so their "reputation" isn't sullied. :grr:
