I had no power for 4 days. I bitched and moaned about it all weekend but after the devastation in The Gulf, I feel very fortunate that power was the only thing I lost...

NO major issues by me, but friends lost power.

I saw Merh in another thread and it sounded like she was going to have to leave her house.

I'm sure she's fine -- it wasn't even raining in Jupiter when I talked to her last night. I don't know if her show was cancelled, though.

August, but on west coast in St. Petersburg. Nothing happened there, feel fortunate, as we experienced the threat of Charlie first hand last year and spent time in a shelter then. I have a friend in New Orleans that I can't locate however. She had talked about moving quite awhile ago but hadn't managed to do it yet. She is from Germany originally, hopefully she left early and went to stay with family. Her husband is from another part of this country originally, maybe they went there. I did watch KO last night, just didn't have the heart to post.

Welcome back! I've missed you. I've been thinking about PMing you to make sure you're okay, but have been so crazy at work I haven't gotten around to it. I knew you were in Florida, but didn't know if you had your computer with you.

How are you doing? I'm glad the hurricane missed you and my thoughts are with your friend in NO. I hope she was able to get out and is okay. This whole thing is just so awful and * can take so much of the blame it makes me furious.

Are you thinking about going to DC for the rally? I'm going with a few DUers from here.

I did have Mr. Bunny's laptop with us there for the last two weeks but was trying to disengage from the news for awhile. Mr. Bunny thinks I'm addicted to DU and wants me to spend less time on the computer so I tried to stay away at least when I was on vacation. So sad to come home to this news.

We thought NO had missed the direct hit and boarded the autotrain on Tuesday afternoon (there was virtually zero news on the hurricane on the radio while we drove the three hours to the train) only to get off Wednesday morning to the news that NO was underwater and had not escaped unscathed after all. Still no news from my friend, and no way to get in touch. One sad thing is that even if people's homes weren't destroyed, their livelihoods have definitely been affected, there is no city left to work in. My brother in law's family (yes, the same one who is a converted Orthodox Jew, formerly a lapsed Catholic jazz musician from Shreveport, LA), all live in New Orleans proper, I know they evacuated, but now they have no jobs to go back to. This is secondary to the loss of life and the suffering of course.

I won't be able to be in Washington for the rally. Inundated with work, and teaching obligations for September and October. Glad the KOEB will be represented though.

I'll try and post tonight during Keef hour, perhaps after the show.

So sorry about your brother-in-law's family, and I hope you hear from your friend soon.
