1. THANK GOD!
I was in withdrawal! And I got a great baseball history lesson too.

2. A week late!
He probably didn't think I'd like a baseball blog.

I love to hear Keith talk about baseball; he's passionate and authoritative whenever he takes the subject up. I'm really enjoying "The Big Show." Reading it out loud to my husband, as I'm wont to do when I discover a good book. This one's great fun and educational too.

3. I'm glad he has subjects like this to take his mind off the SERIOUS stuff
I can't imagine the stresses that KO is bearing, being the only truth-teller on TV and battling on so many fronts at the same time as he's trying so hard with his staff's help to get the facts straight. It was the latter issue that he said (in his blog) had convinced him to cut way back on political blogging. Trying to nail down every single tiny fact in a quickly blogged article was simply not possible in the timeframe available, and he chose to pull back to a position where he could defend EVERYTHING he writes. And no wonder!

He has his outrages at sports too, but at least they're on a different channel, so to speak. When he's venting about some sports-related figure, he's also letting off steam that has built up on subjects that are not so simple. That's a good thing, because I'm concerned about him getting burned out by all the pressure and controversy surrounding him.

We need him to stay there, continuing to fight, telling the truth with panache and snark to make it go down a bit easier. We need that very badly, and he's just one vulnerable human being.

7. it was great fun
I went back and re-read it over lunch (his blogs are generally worth a second or seventh look) and I couldn't help but grin at the prospect of someone taking a film crew down to one of the spring training camps and telling the team: "today, we're going to have a practice game according to the rules from 1883 (or 1891 or 1908, etc.)" and watch the players' eyes bug out as they try to adapt to the different rules and equipment of a game they think they know inside out.

4. I love baseball and even for non-fans
that was a great read.

They should let him replace MJ segments with sports stories! I'd much rather look at Derek Jeter than MJ :)

6. agreed; I'd much rather read tidbits like this about baseball and
such than crap about the MJ trial. I'm not a big sports fan but I thought this was a wonderful little overview of how the bar has shifted over the years and of how much and how little the "records" mean.

8. I've never cared all that much about baseball but
I enjoy reading KO's posts on baseball as much as I enjoyed reading Bouton's book 'Ball Four' (if that's not the correct title just put this down as a senior moment) years ago. If you haven't read it do so.
