So what did everyone think about today?

I'm reasonably happy. I'm sorry that the entire nasty bag of worms didn't get upended and spilled out. Wouldn't it have been beautiful to have had a boatload of indictments on wide-ranging conspiracy charges or even the espionage act returned? I guess that would have been the best of all possible worlds. And, I'm not entirely confident that it WILL get upended and spilled out. But I think this is a very good start to things. What about ya'll?

(Edited to add: And the thing that really discourages me was that in the Watergate days, the Congress appointed a special commission and they investigated it themselves. In addition to the action going on in the courts. And Fitz pretty much said today, Don't expect me to do Congress's job for them. But how can we expect Congress to do any investigating because it is Republican controlled and so damn partisan? :mad:)

And now I really HAVE to give up my little addiction to DU and cable news for a few days and start getting some stuff accomplished in real life. I probably won't join ya'll tonight... although I might catch the rerun. Anyway I'll be around ... but I CANNOT hang out on here constantly like I have been!

I thought Karl might get nudged off the cliff, too. I don't think Fitz is finished. I do believe they've finished collecting the bulk of the testimony, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are a few sealed indictments under the Fitzmas tree and some deal-making is going on in the background. I think Fitz has tumbled to the Niger forgery and is angling for Cheney and Bolton and wondering whether he can or should go for others.

but I'm glad Fitzgerald indicted on charges he felt he had a chance of proving in court. So many times, persecut---er, prosecutors get so gung-ho, they issue carpet-bomb indictments. This gets them camera time in which they can proclaim they've indicted Bad Guy A on 200 criminal counts & not only taint the jury pool (because people still hang on to the myth that once indicted, you are guilty) but push Bad Guy A into copping a plea to one of the lesser counts (like conspiracy). (Such pleas rarely get the banner headlines that the initial announcement the 200-count indictments get.)

I don't think he would have taken out a 2-year lease on office space if he was going to close up shop entirely, and it is possible that he will investigate the matter further at the same time he prosecutes Scooter. If he really gets close to shrubbie/cheney, look for Rove to get thrown under the bus as well.

As for how to get Congress to do its own investigation? My dear, get everyone you know to vote Democrat in 2006.

But it is a little bit of a letdown that it didn't all happen at once. It's going to be a long, interesting winter, I think. Stock up on loads of popcorn -- it's going to be a marathon.

He wanted it to happen when he was sure he had everything wrapped up tight. Apparently, that wasn't last Friday, and I'm guessing it bothers him not one whit that the media's attention will be directed elsewhere for a day or two. He's been chugging on this for almost two years. Last Friday, we got a brief flash of where he is, but I don't think he's given us the whole picture yet; it's like a strobe light flashing on at a dance party and we only saw one part of the room. I'm pleased with the quality of the results so far and his consummate professionalism.
As much as I wish we knew the whole story now, I also realize that the longer this drags on, the worse it is for the administration. :popcorn:
