OT - Rotten News, and a Prayer Request
Hi, gang. Sorry to start things off with such a downer:

My best friend, Lisa (little Clara's mom) was hospitalized on Tuesday in Connecticut. She'd been fighting off a vicious cough, and it got worse once she arrived in Philadelphia. It got to a point where she couldn't catch her breath, so her late husband, Adam's uncle and aunt (who she was staying with) took her to the ER. Turns out she was only operating with 1/3 of capacity each lung, and has pneumonia. It's NOT fatal, but she's in bad shape.

The doctors told her mom, Linda, that she should be strong enough to travel on Monday or Tuesday. In the meantime, Linda's staying with Clara at Lisa's place. Clara is being stoic about the whole thing; she did cry once, when Linda could tell she was upset. Linda asked the Boo, "do you miss your Mommy?" and a tear rolled down her cheek. She's explained to Clara that her mommy is sick, but will be coming back soon. Lisa's called and spoke to Clara, so she does know that her mommy's okay.

Linda did offer to go to Philly to take care of Lisa, but Lisa wanted her to stay with Clara. Even when Lisa does come home, she's so weak, it'll take her at least a month to recover.

You all have always been terrific about offering up your prayers and good wishes, and I really need them now. I can't stand the fact that this little family keeps having to go through so much grief. Poor Boo is only three, and the thought of her daddy being dead and her mommy so ill just tears my heart out.

So, if you could take a moment today and say a prayer for them, it would mean more to me than you'll ever know.

Lotsa love, Wendy

4. Whoa,
Of course, I feel so damn guilty I was whining about "just teeth, what are they good for" in another thread.

10. don't feel guilty
bad teeth can hurt like hell. We all have our moments of complaining about our lack of shoes. Perhaps it's being reminded of other's troubles that gives us enough perspective to get through one more day of a situation we thought we couldn't handle any more; just the idea of trading our burdens for someone else's makes our troubles seem lighter.

11. Catch, dear - - it's not a contest.
When someone hurts, they hurt. Period. And that hurt is unique to that person. I would never be dismissive of the real physical pain of what you're going through, so please, leave the guilt to the Lutherans. ;)

8. Thanks SO much everyone! Lisa update:
I found out yesterday that Lisa's getting released from the hospital, and hopefully will be headed home either today or Monday. (Personally, I think she should wait; air travel when you've had that type of serious lung infection is risky. Still, I understand her wanting to get home to her daughter, especially since she's so little).

The power of prayer really does work! Thanks so much to each and every one of you. This little family has been through so much; I can't bear the thought of them having to cope with any more pain.

Lotsa love, Wendy

and some  for you, too. This sort of thing is doubly hard to take during the holiday season.
