Has anyone made their plane reservations for NYC yet?
I went out to the NWA site yesterday and it was actually a bit cheaper than Travelocity. I can get a $178 round trip, coming to $196.90 with all taxes and fees. I'm ready to book if anyone else is.

1. i am going but
i'll be waiting until after the holidays to get my tix. from my vantage point, you already have a great fare, sharon, so i'd take it unless you're strapped for $$ right now. the best i've seen (& from sa two hours' drive from here) is in the $340 range. :( if the fares don't get better, i'm using miles. :)

2. Now, would it behoove us to make our reservations
Edited on Tue Dec-13-05 03:23 PM by crispini
at the same time to increase our likelihood of being on the same plane? And if so, which flights are practical for you?

I'm thinking about flying out late Friday night after work in order to not burn all freaking day on Saturday in travel. I mean, me and a really early flight on Saturday morning -- not so much.

I think you have the longest flight, but still, it's gonna be about 3 hours just out of DFW, and with the time change from here you get really whacked.

Now, flights on AA.com right now are right around $219, which is probably the best I'm going to get. Now, if you were routing through DFW, could you skate out of work early enough on Friday to be practical?

Or should I give this up and just fly in on Saturday?

Is anyone else arriving Friday or is everyone else arriving Saturday?

I guess the answer to your ORIGINAL question, Sharon, is, well, I'm ready to pull out the ol' credit card but I do think it'd be fun to be on the same flight.

Edited to add: Sat. Feb 18, 19, and then Monday the 20th, right? I really need to get a 2006 calendar.

3. oh crispy
i'm leaving as early as possible on friday. i want to get the most out of my trip to nyc. if i burn miles w/aa, then i'd be going thru dfw; if on continental, iah.

what airline is the $219 on? if it's on something besides aa or co, i might have to go through sa, a 2 hour drive. not bad, but not my fave thing to do after a trip. :)

5. The $219 is on AA, of course.
Does any other airline fly out of Dallas? ;)

So, ok, hypothetically speaking, if you WERE to fly on AA, and you were to connect through Dallas, about what time would your connecting flight be? ;)

14. hypothetically speaking of course
if i caught the 6am flight, i could make a 9 am flight to nyc. i think the earliest arrival would be sometime around 1 (lga i think).

i'll have to go peruse aa.com again to see what comes up. :)

16. You'd beat me if you did that.
The only way I could get there earlier would be to get up before dawn, which I don't plan to do.

8. LOL -- see my response downthread
I could leave at 6 a.m. on Friday, but that's way too early. I'd be alone half the day in NY and who wants to get up that early? Mid-afternoon is perfect. Hopefully someone else will get into LGA around that time and we can share a cab into the city.

4. Now that Southwest will begin flying out of Love Field...
anyone coming from TX should wait for the fare war between them and American.

6. Nah, the Wright Amendment hasn't been repealed yet.
Southwest just got permission to add some flights to Missouri or something. Ooooo. Missouri. Whoopie! :sarcasm:

I honestly hope they don't get permission to fly out of Love to all 50 states. Sure, it'd be nice, but it would RUIN a big section of the city for its homeowners. Plus, danger. That's a very highly populated area. Let 'em freakin fly out of DFW. It's huge and that's what it's there for. :P

7. I'm planning to take Friday and Monday off and get in
mid-afternoon on Friday. There's a 12:35 flight that gets in around 3:20. I plan to maximize the time in NY.

9. oh, now this could be screamingly funny
instead of liveblogging the show via computer, imagine some of us stuffed into a hotel room Friday evening, doing it verbally. (Translation: how to be evicted by the management before you've even had a chance to unpack!)

12. LOL -- very scary thought
But I'll actually get to watch the show instead of being in another room. We'll just have to plan dinner accordingly before or after the show, or maybe we can bring in carryout, especially if we get a suite with a kitchen.

10. TWO days off. Ooo. You're really burning the vacay, eh?
Hm.....

Will have to consider.

Would LOVE to get together and liveblog the show on Friday night. That would be our only chance, wouldn't it?

Hm................ It's so hard to know what to do. I don't have anything definitely planned next year, but a friend of mine and I have been making noises about going to Asia for a few weeks, and if you burn a day here and a day there, that REALLY adds up if you then realize you want it later on. Hmmm.....

11. I have tons of vacation time
We can only carry over 25 days, which I always do, and then we get paid for anything over that in January. I use it as sort of a savings account. I use as little vacay as possible so I get a bigger check in January. I have 22 days of vacation a year right now, plus my 25 carryover days I've accumulated. I've only used about 6 this year and will use a couple more over the holidays, so I'll get paid for about 13 or 14 days in January. Comes in handy when hubby's not working.
