And yes, everyone on this thread could put together the speech without batting an eye -- "central front in the war on terror," "democratic nations do not attack other nations," "spreading the peace," "Koizumi is a good friend," blah, blah, blah, blah. Look for the Frank Luntz-tested phrases about September 11th changing everything and how it's better to fight the terrorists in the streets of Baghdad than in Washington, D.C., etc.

The first KOEB member to pick out the Frank Luntz talking points in this speech should claim her prize immediately following. Say, what have we got for prizes?

I'm also wondering if Bush will use the phoney El Salvador analogy with Iraq. Members of the GOP, including Cheney, have been recycling the old Reagan speech about an election in El Salvador during the 1980s. What they don't tell you is that civil war continued for years after said election. They're being every bit as dishonest about Iraq.

Really, the only surprise would be if Bush actually has anything A) new to say or B) truthful to say. A is more likely than B, I'd guess.

my fave from that era: the scare tactic about the communists in el salvador or nicaragua being only a 24-hour drive from the US. had us in the rio grande valley :rofl: for weeks....ya, only if you drive it straight (you can't) AND if the Mexicans don't put up a fight (they will). doonesbury had a week or two week-long series about it & the CAF (when it was still called the Confederate Air Force & stationed in Harlingen) announced it was scrambling the aircraft, including Fifi, in preparation of an "invasion."

I'd like to make up a bingo card, but doubt I will have time. Let's just have a drinking game:

--Drink every time he says "September the 11th"
--Drink every time he says "terra" or "terraists"
--Drink every time he mentions the Iraqi elections
--Drink every time he praises "our troops" and implies that not supporting the war demoralizes "our troops"
--Drink every time he gets defensive about anything he's ever done
--Drink every time he blames the media for anything
--Drink every time he implies that expressing disagreement with his actions is the equivalent of providing aid and comfort to the enemy and hating America
--Drink every time he implies that agreeing with everything he's done is the equivalent of being a true patriot

That should just about do it.

Of course, to make it really easy, one could just drink every time he says something stupid. But then you might as well just hook up the IV to the booze drip and stick the needle in before he even gets started.

I guess I'll just turn on the tube when I get back from my neighbor's holiday party and see what's what. Honestly, why on earth is Shrub even bothering? I think pretty much everyone else in the country is too damn busy paying attention to Christmas... this is gonna be pretty much, uh, IGNORED. :D

DH is a rerun, so no problem there. Grey's Anatomy is also a rerun. I'll be around tonight. FYI, though, Randi is going to be on CSPAN at 8 - I think she's got a whole hour interview, so I'm going to watch that and then switch grudgingly over toe *, just so I'm in the know. Not that I expect him to say anything new.

And I'm HOPING that maybe Sparky's Bar will be open...
