108. I'm pretty sure it's already on the shelves here, so it
shouldn't be that long before it makes it to Knoxville. I always think it's funny that they keep all the contraception (including condoms) on the same aisle with the pregnancy tests and ovulation prediction kits and tampons and such -- they should name the aisle "icky female things boys don't want to have to think about".

109. I was wondering what universe that remark came from also
If he makes it through the primary, it'll be because Dems crossed party lines and voted for him to ensure that seat goes Dem in the fall. Seriously, if I were in that district, I'd be sorely tempted...

117. Oooo. Good idea.
Sadly, most of the hard-core dems are probably gonna want to vote in the Dem primary because of the contested governor's race, but tactically speaking, that would be a brilliant idea.

Who are you favoring in the gov. primary? Gammage or Bell?

25. Most def a new tie. I like Dana's tie better. Dana does have the flair for
suits and ties, though his smugness still annoys.

Not enough in depth coverage of Alito hearings for my taste, although I'm sure it's not KO's fault. I would have liked to have seen Feinstein's questioning and Feingold's opening question about Alito's coaching.

I hated that tie on Dana. The whole thing looked like my house, circa 1968, with the olive tweeds. :) I love 1968, btw, but olive wooly ties are tricky and tough to pull off.

After all he is worth it, and there are at least 14 of us so it'll work out to be a reasonable amount for each of us.

Loved your comment last night about 'now they know there's another tie thread.'. Of course they do, I like to think the staff adores the tie threads and looked forward to them starting up again. We are nothing if not entertaining n'est ce pas?

112. focus on the background color.
IMO, Patsy's right. Teeny tiny patterns will be difficult to make out on the TV screen. Ties that look garish in extreme close up can look good even three or four feet away. Try it at the mall sometime.

1. Go to a tie counter, find a tie with a background color that you think is attractive but a tiny pattern you don't like.
2. Back up.
3. Look at tie.
4. Wait for Security to arrive.

yummy, just didn't see it in extra long. We'd definitely know he was wearing it, and it takes a real man to wear butterflies well. I'll try and find it later and post it on the tie thread. I like the Kenzo ties on the first site I posted last night when I started the thread.

99. Okay, my picks.
City Lights, Nightlife or Parade; the last two would look good with his gray suit. The Aarudeko tie from the Shibuya Collection would also look good with the dratted gray suit. KO likes outer space collectibles so how about Stellar from the Design Collection? He also likes modern clean lines so no flowery ties or any tie that looks like you'd get beaten up in the locker room if you wore it.

I'll protect you from the tie demons KO!

104. That was kind of my thought, but there was one in that
collection I think might work, if we can get extra long. I'm just not sure about that. It's the Aarukedo one. I posted a picture in the tie thread. The Ann Arbor one is at the top and the Aarukedo is at the bottom.

There are many others I really like, but I don't think they'd be right for Keith.

get old for Sammy to have to constantly live up to electric 'blue eyes' performance. Sammy doesn't seem quite so charismatic, and looks like he'll get testy eventually under stressful questioning. Feingold and Feinstein did a good job today from the little I've read so far. I didn't get the chance to watch but I'm going to try to catch tomorrow's hearings.

110. the coverage of the Alito hearings on Tuesday was piss-poor
in my opinion. The footage from Pete Williams gives the impression that Alito has no intention of overturning Roe v. Wade by reporting that Alito had said he'd approach any new cases impartially; his opinions in the past wouldn't be relevant (I'm paraphrasing, but that was the implication). IMHO, that's stenography -- accurate (Alito said that), but a statement that shouldn't have been reported alone at face value. In sharp contrast, NPR ran a much shorter clip right after 8am Eastern this morning (I'm sure they did more coverage later, but I didn't hear it as someone overturned her cereal bowl at an inopportune moment) that gave more information in less time. NPR ran a clip of Shumer asking Alito about his 1985 position and whether he still stands by it or disavows it. Alito gave the stock I-was-representing-my-client-the-Reagan-Administration answer and then the newsreader simply said that Alito never stated whether he currently supports or disavows his 1985 position. So, in less time than Williams took, we got actual quotes (giving the emotional temperature of the room at the time and people's exact words) and the summary that Alito never answered the question. And we're left to wonder: why did he keep ducking the question?

49. This guy looks like he's enjoying himself too much exposing the author's
exaggerating. The book should have been written as a novel, as the Times article pointed out was the author's choice, the publisher decided to run with it as a memoir.

I'm sorry, this guy is way too invested in poking holes in Frey's story. Maybe jealous, he can't get a book deal.

I would've thought it was a great book even if it was sold as a novel. It was that good.

Oh boy. I wonder how much trouble Keith is going to get into now for having his comments from his friend on Connie Chung overheard. Let's be honest: if they meant to deride her by calling her a cockroach, I wouldn't mind at all. But of course, Keith refuses to be caught saying a single bad word about his MSNBC-mates, as repulsive as some of them are.

No thank you.

I tell you, it constantly amazes me that Keith is able to hold his tongue and be a good team player when I consider the quality of some of the people dragged over to work at MSNBC. Don Imus, Rita Cosby, Connie and Maury, Chris Matthews, Tucker Carlson...he won't say a bad word about the whole scurvy crew. Yet all you have to do is say "Hello" to Imus and he's off to the races about how terrible everyone else at MSNBC is other than him. :puke:

He offends me constantly, and I HATE the way women are demeaned on his show....
but he often has newsmakers on the show for interviews and I enjoy watching
the "game" of politics (I'm a news junky). That is the ONLY reason I watch.

Otherwise, I would have to watch chirpy cooking lessons on a network morning show
and learn that pink is the new red this season.......

I'm open to suggestions! How do you get your news in the morning?

women were demeaned or I was constantly offended. I just couldn't take it. So I don't watch Imus. I don't care if God is on his show, I won't watch.

I get my news in the morning from the Web, if I need news. No TV, normally no radio (although having XM, if I really wanted to I would have my choice of news. I believe MSNBC on XM actually carries repeats of their early edition news during Imus's TV time because he probably can't be aired on XM so long as he's on terrestrial radio).

I used to watch local TV news. Turned it off the day I saw the pretty female anchor-bots shaking their heads sorrowfully about the "fact" that people had died because Newsweek "misreported" the flushing of a Koran down a Gitmo toilet. The day I saw that any local news channel was taking that story at complete face value was the day I turned off local news forever.

82. Yeah, I loved the Keith pictures they used at the beginning and end
to frame this story.

We should have known the mouse story was too good to be true. When I heard it last night, it reminded me of the old urban legend about the two idiots who decide to go take a brand new 4X4 out with their best retriever dog when they go duck hunting. Supposedly one of them gets the bright idea to throw a stick of dynamite onto the ice, at a safe distance, to blast a hole in it and give the ducks a place to settle so they can be easily shot. Their plot is thwarted when the retriever runs after the tossed stick of dynamite and brings it back to them...and when they start yelling at him to chase him away, runs for cover under the brand-new truck. Which is uninsured.

The mouse story sounded extremely similar, and it doesn't surprise me a bit if someone is pulling someone's leg.

Edited on Tue Jan-10-06 09:45 PM by BerryBush
in the New York Post:

There was Keith Olbermann. Before things got rolling, he could be heard loudly ridiculing his new MSNBC colleague Connie Chung for re-emerging, cockroach-like, in his airspace - and groused jealously about Bill O'Reilly's superior ratings.

Well, either she's deliberately trying to annoy him, or she's not paying much attention...otherwise she'd know what a laugh Keith regularly has on Bill's "superior ratings" and what kind of snark Keith had in store for him last night!

As for the cockroach remark, either you believe her or you believe Keith. Hey, Keith, I don't care if you DID call Connie Chung a cockroach. As far as I'm concerned, she is one!
