My take on the "Email" Dust-up

I've been a member of this forum for quite some time now, & have noticed a few things. Occasionally, we get "visited" by those from the outside whose objective is to stir up trouble. This usually happens when Keith is on vacation. The last time this forum was "visited" & disrupted was when someone dropped by to tell us the "bad news" that KO was in a committed relationship. Poster X then proceeded to post personal attacks on our beloved Reverend Cheesehead, which really tipped her(his?) hand. It seemed to me at the time that the only purpose of this particular post was to try to demoralize the KOEB in general (& the personalized attack on Rev was calculated to hurt her in particular). X's reasoning seemed to be that if the "object of our affection" was taken, then we'd be heart-broken & turn into jealous harpies because we'd been "rejected" & less likely to be such die-hard fans. This attempt was SOOOO high school, coming as it did on the heels of her/his revelation that KO supposedly likes 'em young. Again, same motivation & sooooo HIGH SCHOOL. What we do here is kin to the kind of chats about the hotties that we did at slumber parties. Okay, that's high school, too, but at least it's fun & no one gets hurt. That's how I see the KOEB. We like this guy, some of us think he's hot (for various reasons), we post :loveya: until they tell us to stop & everyone has a laugh & a good time.

After that, this forum hasn't been disrupted, although we did get a visit from someone who wanted us to go cause problems for the knuckledraggers on an anti-KO site, saying that is was part of our "mission statement" & suggested we'd get in trouble with DU Admin for not doing so. Well, not to put words into Skinner's mouth, but I'm sure he appreciates the fact that we don't use DU as a forum to go disrupt another site. To each his own, & as long as the knuckledraggers stay on their side of the pool & don't piss on our side, I'm willing to live & let live.

The same cannot be said about other KO fan sites. One in particular seems to get disrupted on a regular basis, by a person or persons claiming to have personal knowledge of KO, to have dated him, to have dated or slept with him, even to having his Ebay username. The majority of these posts are not complimentary of him, BTW. However, as the posts got more & more personal, I started to smell a rat. Who the hell has the time to figure out someone's Ebay username, for cripe's sake? It was obvious that someone was trying to stir up trouble for KO among the fan base, but why? So we wouldn't feel so strongly about showing our support when the real attacks started.

Then this week happened. All kinds of "shocking" emails, allegedly sent by KO in response to flame-bait emails. (Having read some of the emails supposedly sent to KO, I'm hard-pressed to place the writers of them into the category of "fan." "Fans" don't attack their favored celebrity. They send them messages full of :loveya: & :yourock: & such.) If the attacks weren't so blatantly personal & the intent (character assassination) so obvious, I'd laugh at the gossip columnist who apparently thinks people would fall over dead on the street upon learning that KO actually uses the word "fuck." For the record, if I get crap like that in my personal email box, I'd respond in kind too. Baby's got F bombs & she knows how to use 'em. From my work account, I'd be more circumspect, but believe me there's more than one way to tell some knuckle-dragger to go fuck himself without having to use the word "fuck."

Of course, at this time, we don't know if those emails were sent by KO. Many have said they don't "read" like him & I fall into that category. I could be wrong, & if so, I think it's a bad judgment call on KO to use his work email to respond to the knuckledraggers. Why not come over here instead, where he'd be surrounded by all the :loveya: & :yourock: he could stand to offset the negative vibes sent by the knuckledraggers? Then there's the :tinfoilhat: theory that someone spoofed his work email account. If that is the case, then evil to him who evil does (paraphrasing here). Karmic paybacks are a bitch, folks.

I did a little research today...news searches are only turning up conservative news sites (like newsmax) and gossipy rw blog buzzards covering this "story".

I'm really skeptical it was KO responding to hateful drivel. He's way, WAY too smart and probably knows....when he returns the slime, he becomes one of them. That's just not Keith, his brilliance is his serious wit, and he can tell you in funnier ways "to kill yourself".

My guess, it's an O'Reilly possessed fan, or even that rat bastard at the Daily News...hasn't he ended up on Worst Person in the World too ? Why would a "fan letter" end up in his hands?

Also, have the emails been verified ? The alleged apology? Even that didn't sound like our Keefer.

Olbermann and Jon Stewart and recently Stephen Colbert have been the only reliable media sources I've been able to turn to when I'm not able to visit DU. I could be wrong, but I think Olbermann will survive. The far-right's been trying to get rid of him for a while. For people who talk about spreading democracy, they sure do spend a lot of time trying to suppress it in the U.S.

If they were they are heavily edited. When he said he got mad and responded to some emailers when his blog was new, my unfortunately vast experience with high school bullying kicked in. Never but never respond to bullies especially in their style and on their terms. They are experts and absolutely delighted to get a rise out of you. Silence is your only defense. Yes, I know, that's chicken and you ought to defend yourself, I hear you say, it's not fair! But this is'nt a fair fight. The few times I retaliated was to physical, not verbal, bullying. That HAS to be answered even if you absorb the blame for it, as I did on two occassions (ladies don't slug people, right?). Email bullying is sooooooooo easy to ignore. KO, if you read this, let it go! Hit the delete key! Be happy you can put them on ignore! I wish I could've deleted some of the jerks that ridiculed me in high school.

I'm not sure whether I'm supposed to wilt in despair, collapse from shock, or swell with outrage, so I think I'll just say, "fuck it all" and have a :beer:

but Lord knows there are plenty in KO-land. The list of possible mischief-makers is an extremely long one, and for that reason alone I wouldn't go pointing any fingers just yet.


However, even if all the accusations are true (and they could be--even the most intelligent and clever wordsmiths can be reduced to ill-phrased crudities when their anger bypasses their good sense), the worst thing that happened here is: He swore back on company e-mail to some people who swore at him!


Does it make him a saint? NO! Does it make him human? YES!


Is he going to be fired over it, as you or I might be? NO!


And guess who cares...nobody but his sworn enemies.



In other words...they failed.









Oh, they'll surely try again...but this time, they failed. And from this, he learned. And from now on, he will know better.

Incidentally, I have slept with KO myself, I just didn't want to totally demoralize everyone in here. For sake of harmony and all. :)

On a serious note, I know how KO writes, and I know voice, because I am a writer etc and that is not KO's voice. You can typically tell. Now that isn't a 100 percent science, it's like being able to tell someone's speaking voice apart from another persons. People, such as my brothers and I, often sound similar, so it is tough to tell us apart. Well, a writing voice is like that too. It is pretty unique to the person, but, of course, it can be tough to tell apart from others or in certain situations, like writing an angry email, their normal voice is not there.

What it looks to me like though, is somebody was making up something they thought was a type of smartass comment they imagined KO might say to someone. It reads fishy to me. Not like the type of writing he has on his blog or that he reads on his show. He's been mad before, witness the Malmedy stuff with Billo, and he took another route, still snarky and angry, but not like those emails supposedly attributed to him. Why would he do that? There is about a 99 percent chance that he never would, not even in a fit of anger. It would be absolutely unprofessional to do so, and KO has been in the business for wayyy to long to just get that damn all of a sudden. I don't think it holds water at all.

Now that that's over, let me say that I agree with you, Bill. The writing style is vastly different from Keith's. Besides, wouldn't Keith be a bit more snarky and tell someone to "go Cheney yourself" instead?

make a comeback on somebody it isn't going to be something so dumb and pedestrian. Guys like KO and Al Franken are way too quick to do something like that. "Go Cheney yourself" is a perfect example. See they imagine a snappy comeback is just cussing. Psh.. where is the style and skill in that? :)
