Okay, I know this is kinda tacky, but I'd really appreciate you guys leaving some feedback. It helps a lot when Dave and Corynne know it's getting read!

Thanks, you guys. Beween losing my job and my poor boss being in ICU, it's been a tough week.

See ya tonight!

9. I already did that last week.
Really, things should hopefully calm down for the next two weeks, anyway.

And I always give credit to Dave. He's done right by me from the start, and continues to do so.

13. yeah, I had to post to ask someone how that worked.
I think it was Crispi who helped me out. I was looking all through the menus for something, not realizing there was a friending little icon sitting right under my nose. :silly:

Remember the fabulous Looney Tunes takeoff of the "Ring Cycle"?

Everyone sing..."Kill da Wabbit, Kill da Wabbit, Kill da Wabbit!!!"

12. Oh...My...GAWD!!!
WHERE did you get that?

Here's a goofy story. I spent my 30th birthday in NYC, where they were doing a show called "Bugs Bunny on Broadway" at the Gershwin Theater. They projected all the Bugs Bunny cartoons that had classical music (think "Long Haired Hare," "The Rabbit of Seville", and "What's Opera Doc") on a HUGE video screen, with a live symphony playing the music where there wasn't dialogue. Yup, me and about 1,500 other patrons, hoisting our beers, and singing Wagner with Elmer Fudd.

And I haven't changed a bit since then. :)

16. Go here and scroll
until you get to Kill the Wabbit. (Real player needed. Tried to find it else where)http://www.toontracker.com/demented/demented.htm Though fair warning, you will never hear Elmer Fudd the same again. but you sound like you need a laugh.

18. A huge, big, fat thank you!
I wanted to thank you all so much for the feedback and support you've given me not only last week, but ever since I started posting here. While I realize we may disagree on some things editorially (almost all of which I can't control), I appreciate your taking the time to let me know what you think.

It looks like I'm going to have some good news for you very soon. In the meantime...thanks again so much for helping me through a really rotten time in my life, from the bottom of my heart. :)

21. And given everything that's happened this week:
I appreciate the support even more.

Someday I'll tell everyone what's been going on. I will tell you that Dave has been totally supportive, respected my opinions, and all around terrific.

But like any job, there are times you don't agree with your bosses, and get overruled. By walking away, all I'd do is (a) shoot myself in the foot, and (b) not get any input at all. I'm not going to win every battle. It's not my blog. Maybe someday I'll do one, but with looking for work and dealing with a friend who may very well be dying, I just can't handle it.

Jossip is one of the few things that gives me any kind of happiness and creative fulfillment these days, and I'm not giving it up. All I can say is that in my own work, with my own byline, I always try to be fair. But this IS a gossip blog, and good and bad are going to be posted about everyone, not just KO, and I can't control that fact.

Again, I want to thank everyone (and you especially, Rev) for your compassion, understanding and respect. We may not always agree, but I promise that I'll always respond to what's said here.

Take care, and have a terrific Fourth of July.

22. Thanks, GK.
I really do appreciate the support. It's important that at this early stage, I don't "burn my bridges." The bottom line is that Dave gave me a chance when nobody else would, and I'll always be grateful for that.

I told Revvie this: I don't see how quitting would really benefit anyone. If I go, I get no say (not that I have any now). In my own work, with my own byline, I do my darndest to be fair. But let's face it: the story's out there. If the name was Bill O'Reilly, Dan Abrams, etc., it'd be covered as well. All I can do is say to be fair, and let the readers decide for themselves the credibility.

Thanks again for your understanding. Life sucks right now, but my faith in God (and in you all) can get me through anything.

Enjoy your Fourth of July! :)

23. Muff. I'm sorry, but I have to part company with your thinking here.
Burned bridges can be repaired. Consciences, once lost, can't be retrieved so easily.

We're all grateful to people who give us a chance when nobody else would. But some very, very slimy people can "give us chances"...and then, when we show our gratitude and we are beholden to them, demand our souls in return.

You say here: "If I go, I get no say (not that I have any now)." How does it make sense, then, to stay? You have no say if you go. You have no say if you stay. So, what you're admitting is, you won't lose your "say" if you go, because you have none to lose.

What you're admitting here is that you're inexperienced, and you're trying to get a break...and as a result, you're willing to sell your soul for a byline and some clips.

How cheaply some souls come.

And you're rationalizing every which way come Sunday. "All I can do is say to be fair, and let the readers decide for themselves the credibility." But this isn't FAIR, Muff. It's taking something unsubstantiated and blowing it into something of substance and saying "Let the readers decide whether what we say is crap or true. It's not our responsibility to determine that." Nice.

I don't know what I have to do to get you to see that. Can I appeal to your Dem sensibilities? Do you remember when Matt Drudge was claiming that a woman who used to work with John Kerry was his mistress? It was a heap of crap with nothing to support it--but it was a deliberate smear campaign designed to hurt him.

"Let the readers decide" is not a valid excuse for printing gossip, rumor and innuendo. It is irresponsible, shoddy journalism, and if I were in your place, Jossip is the LAST thing I'd want to display on my resume.

It's like Keith said:

You can’t in this world today I think behave morally correctly at all times....But on occasion you need to stand up and say, I’m not going to feel right about this if I do it, and I’m not going to feel right about it for the rest of my life. And it’s violating my principles and I want to say something and I want to do something now. And it’s going to put me at personal risk.

...What are you doing that is contributing to the thing that you don’t like in the world, and then do what you can to correct it. Not quit your job today...but what...Can you try to change the job slightly? Can you move on to another job in a year’s time? Can you do something to correct what you perceive as a moral error? You are exerting moral force.

And:

...moral force and money often do not mix in the slightest. They are often separate beams of light traveling through the universe, and you may have to jump off one to ride the other for a while.

Because of how hard things are for you right now, Muff, I understand that you may not feel you can afford to ride the beam of moral force right now. But I hope you don't spend so much time riding the beam of money that you forget all about that other beam of light--and lose your soul as a result.

24. And more food for thought...
I found this on Gawker, dated December 12 of last year:

David Hauslaib Abandons His Jossip Hobby

In nerdy blog news, David Hauslaib, the well-coiffed young thing behind gossip blog Jossip and gay spin-off Queerty, is stepping down after two years of nursing Jossip to maturity. He’ll stick around in a management capacity (how very Denton!), but no more daily blogging. His replacement, Corynne Steindler, comes from the sketchy, non-descript environs of Star and Lloyd Grove’s desk at the Daily News, though we’ve no idea what, specifically, any of that means. Not that it matters — as we’ve found, professional qualifications tend to hinder one’s blogging ability.

What does matter, however, is what Hauslaib is up to now. As far as we understood it, editing Jossip was his main job, with extra income obtained by some occasional paper-shuffling around Radar. But now it seems Hauslaib has a new career plan, one far more lucrative: being Daily News gossip Ben Widdicombe’s full-time ass-candy. It’s the trajectory of champions.

So these are the people you work for, Muff? I'm supposed to respect people who appear to be either figuratively or literally in bed with Lloyd Grove, and who no doubt share his interest in bringing KO down?

Or is that just cruel Gawker gossip? :sarcasm:

25. Berry -
It may be time to give this a rest.
You aren't going to change anyone else's opinions, and I'm afraid that we're bordering on getting into hurt feelings. Please, for the sake of the KOEB as a whole, please let it go.
