8. Wow!!! There is a Great column over at Down With Tyranny!!! If you all get
a chance give it a read
A FEW MAD MEN-- WE CAN HANDLE THE TRUTH
snip
Increased debt is being called prosperity. War is being called peace. Cease fires are being blocked as detrimental. Net job loss is being called job creation. Potentially life-saving research is being called murder. American refugees from war zones are being called whiney spoiled babies. Investigations of criminal acts are being called un-American. The American president is insisting he is above the law and always right. And, reports indicate that there is no tolerance for any other view than that. George Bush has created a closed system. No information gets out, and nothing gets in.
snip
Wisdom and effective leadership come from real experience and successes built upon education, concern and real life experience with success and failure and an honest effort to avoid the latter. It does not come from being born surrounded by Bush family wealth or being lucky enough to be supported by the Bush family crony security net. Being a leader is not protecting oneself and ones illusions and delusions. It is protecting a nation. Influence is not threatening members of the media and the congress with punishment for exposing the truth, but it is making sure one publishes the truth. Leadership is not exploiting the 30 something percent of the religious fanatics among us as if they were representative of logic and rationality.

Insanity can exist only as long as we cannot see the reality. Madness requires us to gloss over the details. It requires us to not see the faces or ask the names of the poor, the victimized, or the dead. We cannot allow meaningless phrases to be repeated in place of the truth. We must ask more questions. We must insist on explanations. We must ask for clarifications and distinctions.

As a species human beings needs to pay attention. The time for reevaluation of our ability to destroy ourselves requires some truth telling. Americans are not the only ones capable of lying to themselves. People the world over show they are willing to be led down the war path.

The whole state has needed a good soaking for ages.
I had one of my teens from church cut my grass today. For $20, she's happy, the lawn looks better, and I didn't have to get extra-sweaty.

She's the sister of the Cabana/Lawn-Boy from last year.

36. Hi, WDG!
Are you heading down to Crawford again next month, and did you see this?

Sheehan buys land in Crawford with son's insurance money

http://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/mld/myrtlebeachonline/...

CRAWFORD, Texas – As President Bush prepares to spend some vacation time at his ranch here, not all is peaceful within the peace movement that has doggedly criticized his war policies for the past year.

The Gold Star Families for Peace says on its Web site that its members will again flock to Crawford in August to protest Bush's wartime decisions. Leader Cindy Sheehan is again demanding to meet with the president -- a replay of a year ago -- garnering worldwide attention and making Sheehan, the mother of a fallen soldier, the most familiar face of anti-war protesters.

But Sheehan and Mark Mattlage, owner of the 1-acre property where protesters have been allowed to gather, have had a falling out over scheduling and increased costs for liability insurance.

So, Sheehan has purchased a 5-acre plot in Crawford, saying she did so with some of the insurance money she received after her son, Casey Sheehan, was killed in Iraq.

"We decided to buy property in Crawford to use until George's resignation or impeachment, which we all hope is soon for the sake of the world," Sheehan said in a newsletter, scheduled to be sent to her supporters today. "I can't think of a better way to use Casey's insurance money than for peace, and I am sure that Casey approves."

I read that the property she bought has 5 acres & that it's around the corner from the Peace House.

I don't know if I'm going to make it up to Crawford this year. :(

73. Well, that explains it, doesn't it?
In my generation, people were sniffing glue, not applying it directly to the forehead. :hippie:

74. And in the "nanny state"
the stuff's all non-toxic now, anyway. Bring back the dangerous toys.

75. There's always Liquid Paper.
And, the other day, I found a bottle of mimeograph ink in the church office! :bounce::bounce:

77. Ohhhhhhh.
Mimeograph ink. Joy.

Everytime I see one of those big fat magic markers that the kids use to "tag", I open it and smell it.

78. It's the simple pleasures in life, isn't it?
Have you seen the sharpies on a necklace? Brilliant, I say!

81. Late and probably nobody will see it, but
I have to go on record as having never, ever before seen the "Head On" ad prior to this.

Believe it or not.

However, now that annoying damn thing is earwormed into my brain for life.

Thanks a lot, Brian! :banghead: :nuke:

OK, I have to give him credit, it was funny.

And yes, the way he pops the hood on that toenail is disgusting.

82. Damn it!!
What if we had thought to apply fresh mimeos DIRECTLY TO FOREHEAD!!

Think about how many years ahead we'd be of our current selves!

84. True story:
I'm watching (for entertainment/opresearch value) Hannity and Colmes yesterday, and the guest to represent the "left" position, who questions the amount of destruction created in Lebanon by the Israeli offensive, mentions the notion of whether or not the response is proportional. Hannity says, introducing the other, "Israel should smash back as hard as it can" guy, "If I hear that word 'proportional' one more time, I'm literally going to bang my head on the wall", they show the two guests on a split-screen, and before Hannity's go-to guy can answer, the first guest pipes in with: "Proportional."

I laughed. I might have been alone among Fox viewers in getting it. But it was precious.

Sean: you promised to bang your head on a wall. We're waiting.

C'mon: it might fix what happened when your mother dropped you as an infant.

87. No.
Sean only gets what Karl faxes him.

Everyone should be able to laugh at themselves. Sean can't, but fortunately he has legions to do it for him.
