Grrrr. Heard my first radio ad for Jews for Jesus this afternoon...

I knew they were in my city right for a full force conversion on any and all Jews they can find to talk to. But, this makes it a bit more real for some reason. Apparently, they have a huge amount of funding right now. I just don't get it.

Don't they know...the Jewish position (so to speak) on Jesus? Why are all these people so determined to FORCE their ideas down other's throats. It's just disgusting...

is the worst type of evangilist.

Make no mistake, they are christians wrapped in a cloth of deciet.

Most of their funding comes from the Southern Baptist Convention, and they most definately follow the Nicean creed.

Their prime "candidate" is a jew who is not well schooled in their religion.

3. Oh, I know. They're frightening--cult type frightening...

When I was a high schooler in BBYO, they were here. I mamaged to avoid them. This time, they're here in huge numbers with MILLIONS of dollars worth of funding donated by some evangelical Christian organization. So, they've got radio ads, news paper ads, people hanging out all over. I live in a huge Jewish area, and I am sure there are many who could get easily swayed. I wish they'd crawl back into what ever hole they came out of.

We already have 2 J4Jesus churches in my area, one a couple of blocks away from my shul. Yuck.

4. Since most American Jews end their Jewish "education" at

bar mitzvah (13) then I'd say J4J have a large audience from which to choose. Most fundie Christians know more about the Jews of the bible than do Jews and this gives them an upper hand in any conversion attempt.

IMHO, the reason Christians are so obsessed with converting Jews is because the continued existence of vibrant Jewish communities somehow invalidates their whole belief system.

5. True, but there's also the Rapture Bait...

Some Xian fundamentalists believe that all Jews have to be converted before Jesus can return to Earth and the Rapture will happen. (Leaving aside the inconvenient fact that the whole "Rapture" mythology was pretty much invented in the 19th century...)

If you want to pursue this, prepare yourself for eye-glazing hours learning the difference between Pre-Millenial Dispensationalists and Post-Millenial Something-or-Others.

I grew up around people who took this stuff seriously, and I can't keep the feuding factions straight.
