I was diagnosed with temporal lobe seizures yesterday.
Has anyone else had these?I am fortunate...the only grand mal seizures I have had have been at night.Temporal lobe seizures present with a lot of auras ...smelling weird things, deja vu-like feelings, emotional swings, memory lapses.I am on depakote now.

1. My son has had them, as a result of super high blood pressure, which caused a stroke
which 2 months later caused the seizures. He is on Keppra, which is reportedly a great anti-seizure drug (no side effects). He takes it twice per day and has not had a seizure since.

Are you doing well w/the prescription? Do you know what the underlying cause of the seizures was?

All the best to you.

2. My neice had them several years ago. They were due to
cat stratch fever. She has not had any for 2+years now and is off the seizure meds.

3. I used to work with a woman who has them.
Depakote has helped her a great deal; she hasn't had a seizure since being on it. She has to have MRIs on a regular basis (can't remember how often - I think it's once a year), and she has to have her blood checked every few months because of the Depakote. Other than that, she leads a completely normal life, works full time, raises a family, is very active. It was scary when it first happened. And oddly, all of her grand mal seizures were at night too. But like I said, she's doing great now.

All my best to you - getting a new diagnosis like this can be overwhelming.

4. I just happened upon your post
and wanted to touch base.

I was dxd. in 1992 with TLE. I started on Tegretol and later switched to Neurontin. I never had grand mal, but instead had absence seizures; not knowing how I got somewhere, etc. The deja vous and jamais vous were very strong and I had trouble getting my hand to write what my mind wanted it to. Medication is keeping it all in check.

Take care of yourself.
